Thinking about a long weekend there. Any tips on sights, hotel, etc?

Nope. Had a cultural anthropology professor from there that studied incest in the Northeast region. I'd probably avoid that region.

When we looked in to going we figured on 7 days, but 5 could be considered for a short stay.
Travel time is what made us think it would take that long.

You need more than a long weekend. It's where my family is from. I'll be going again in 15 days. My favorite place on earth. When are you planning on going and I can help you out a lot more.

Greenland is covered with ice, and Iceland is very nice!

Went this past summer. Where are you staying? Do you plan on renting a car? What's a "long weekend"? I went for 13 days and feel like I should have spent a month

The Mighty Ducks taught me that everyone in Iceland is a giant douche.

The best time to go is in late Sept and Oct to see the northern lights.

I hear all the chicks are DTF all the time. But, I also hear they hate Americans.

Do the golden circle tour, but pass on the blue lagoon.
Also, do the tour of the facility where they make all their energy from the shifting of the plates and hot springs. It's pretty cool.

I went this last summer for two weeks.
Reykjavik is easily walkable and accessible. Eat at Grill Market, Fish Market (same owner), and Dill. Drinks at Lofthaus.
You want to travel the Ring Road. There is just an impossible amount of stuff to do, so you will want to consult a travel agency and have them create an itinerary for you, in addition to booking lodging for you in the small towns across the ring. I highly recommend the Westman Islands to the South as a detour. Stykkisholmur to the North is a small town with a ton of mindblowing outdoor stuff around you. I also second the black beaches of Vik. The wealth of sights and attractions in iceland is hard to convey.
Prepare to not get a lot of sleep. In the summer, it doesn't get dark til about 3 and you'll be up around 7.

Best friend is eloping there in March. It seems to be a very outdoorsy place. The caves on the beaches are popular, and rightfully so as they're beautiful. I believe she is getting married at Vik beach, which is a black beach. Looks beautiful in photos. Hot springs seem to be popular too.
