Don't expect your LA refund very soon...

I know most of the MT hits the marker exactly on taxes owed, so they won't get a refund, but LDR is putting out information that it will take 60 days(!!) to process an e-filed return this year, and 12-14 weeks for a paper return. IRS can usually do 2-4 weeks on e-file and 6-8 for paper.
LDR says it will take longer to process all in the name of "fraud prevention".
Such BS. Sorry, but everyone knows the real reason is cash flow management. =)
Not that long ago, LDR would have refunds in bank accounts within 7-8 days of e-filing a return.
Happy tax season, everyone!

Not surprised in the least bit.

Collecting as much interest as they can before giving you your money back.

Personally, I do not think it has to do with interest, I don't think the state has the cash flow, which is more concerning

Can I charge interest? They sure don't mind putting penalties on traffic tickets or any other fine/violation.
Side Question... is there a legal time limit on how long the state or feds can hold your return after you file?

If the refund comes after May 15, statutory interest is applied but it's not much.
They are supposed to publish estimated times to process and stick to them but I'm not aware of any legal time limit. Interest does run. The statue of limitations runs beginning on the filing date, not the processed date.

It's a shame we can't double it at net 60 and triple net 90.

I'll be sure to postmark my check by May 15th so y'all don't have to wait too long.

This is why you should never be owed a tax refund from the government

My 2015 La refund did not show up until after thanksgiving 2015. I filed in February 2015.

That's because if you got a refund, then your return was "flagged for further review" to keep from giving so much back.

I still haven't got my refund from the previous tax season. Sucks.
