Charley Mac was paid between $37,000 and $42,000. Things have definitely changed over the years.

I don't think thisn s the case, technically. His contract is 100% guaranteed so they'd have to ot whatever is remaining on his deal if they fired him.

Who would have thought salaries would have increased in 37 years.

This makes my point. Lsu shouldn't have the same record as ole miss. We should be better. 2nd year ole miss coach vs the all mighty les.

We have had better talent over that stretch. Better staff and yet we have the same record? Good job Les.

I don't get how you can look at those numbers and think I'm wrong and you are right.

Also ole miss has beaten the top team in the conference(and country) twice in that span. Lsu really hasn't come close. So if that means some how les deserves more money than freeze we aren't the program that many believe we are

Freeze was still coaching high school the last time Lsu scored a point in a BCS/ New Years 6 game. Whatever it's called now

I knew it would, perhaps not to the level of obscenity that it has, but it definitely would. I am just noting the contrast between 1977 and 2015. Mac was actually worth a little more than what he was getting paid at the time. Granted, his salary stretched further back then, but nothing like what we have right now.

I'm curious: Anyone have any ideas what Cholly Mac, Stovall, Arnsparger, Archer made?

Show me where, and conference records for the same 3 year period reflect the same. Both have 14-10 SEC records for the same period.

LSU 2013= 10-3 (5-3)
LSU 2014= 8-5 (4-4)
LSU 2015= 9-3 (5-3)

Snark response is dumb. Salaries have increased about 15000% in 35 years

The fact that they have the same record proves freeze has done better. He had to come in a build his program while Les had it set up.

If you can't see that there is no reason in arguing.

You realize that college football is cyclical? I seriously hope you aren't saying lsu is on auto pilot because saban was at lsu 11 years ago. There are ebbs and flow. Les has to rebuild the program from time to time also just like any coach who is at a school a long time.

I think he simply means the table was set when Les got here.

Does anyone know how much Hallman and Dinardo made at LSU

IDK, but here is what Arnsparger's salary was:

quote:

Arnsparger was an integral part of two Super Bowl championship teams when Brodhead selected him to replace Jerry Stovall in 1984.

Although Miami offered him a $1-million-per-year contract to stay with the Dolphins, Arnsparger, then nearly 57 years old, was smitten enough with the idea of coaching the Tigers that he was lured to LSU for $150,000 a year ($80,000 in salary, $70,000 in radio and TV shows).

To put that $150,000 into perspective:

quote:

$150,000.00 in 1984 had the same buying power as $347,697.93 in 2015.

Annual inflation over this period was 2.75%.

Coaching salaries have come a LONG way over the last 30 years

So Lsu and ole miss should be similar?

Last 3 years

Lsu vs bama + ole miss - 1-5

Ole miss vs bama + Lsu. 4-2

But yeah les has been better. Sure. Saying is cyclical and giving Les a pass is just wrong. It's not that les has a lack of talent. They have top 3 talent in the country. It's not lack of players. It's lack of coaching and putting your players in the best positions to succeed. We do not do that and ole miss does. They are steadily building a program while we just stay stubborn in our ways.

I believe Lsu will have a great year next year possibly make the playoffs. (We won't beat bama doing what we have on offense) but it's just a fact that ole miss has pushed their program onto the national stage while Lsu has slowly slid down.

According to this SI article, Hallman was on 90k

quote:

When LSU lost to Southern Miss on Nov. 12 to plunge to 2-7, Dean and chancellor Bud Davis decided to buy out the final year of Hallman's $90,000-a-year contract. Stubborn to the end, Hallman refused to resign. So Dean and Davis fired him but agreed to let him coach the final two games.

and Les has lost about 18 players that left early for the NFL. Freeze was able to bring most of his starters through his system for 4 years, and had a very good quarterback fall into his lap.
