building your team to beat alabama?

we all know that saban builds his team to beat LSU so he can win the west. what about the other west schools. what do they do?
Ole miss seems to, but does freeze do it or is it that he just can't build a running game so he has to pass a lot?
malzahn tries to. especially with his scheme. I think after a bad year auburn could and will compete again.
moo state doesn't have the horses and can't get enough of them.
a & m is just a dumpster fire right now.
Arkansas does what LSU does - power vs power. with a good qb, they can play a close game, but HOw will they get the depth to take bama head on?
LSU - miles is actually in a position and does recruit well enough to take bama on strength vs strength. We just never seem to have a capable qb. you watch those games and if our qb could find the open receivers and get them the ball we could at least split our games with them. since we don't have the qb, it leaves some of us scratching our heads about the scheming.
Good news - I think miles will give cam the offensive reins. we won't be much different, but we'll scheme better. better play-calling, more creativity - more dependence on the qb. like we saw against TT. yeah, it was TT, but we didn't struggle - we ran our offense like we should have, which we haven't done on a regular basis against weaker teams.
I do expect qb play to start improving, one way or another. with play-calling, maturity, recruiting and competition.
AND, Alabama's got nowhere to go but down. they will field a good defense next year, a top 25 defense in all likelihood, but it'll still be a dramatic drop off from the front 7 they had this year.
I can't believe I'm saying it, but I feel better about our coaching staff, esp. with the defensive changes.
we should compete again! and do our fair share of winning! Hurray!

The same is said about Alabama every year. As long as Nick Saban is standing on their sideline you just need to go ahead and expect them to be in the hunt for it all every year. The man is very good. I hate it but the truth hurts.

Am I the only one who was horrified by some of the throws by Harris in the bowl game? I know his numbers looked good but he was plain awful at times.

If we are talking about defensively, this is not totally true, especially this year. He has been more versatile with some of his personnel, particularly on the front 7. It has helped out in improving the pass rush. They have not been that great in rushing the passer in prior years.

Watson missed a wide open WR last night by 30 yards. It happens to all QBs and especially young ones.

Coker is far less that stellar. Your QB doesn't have to a superstar IF you put him in the plan and the team executes. Bama makes few mistakes and they EXECUTE like a mofo... That is coaching. Saban is the best ever.

Anyone who thinks that Saban's motivation or philosophy is centered around beating a mediocre and underachieving LSU program is the ultimate homer.

I mean... He wants to win championships. To do that he must win the west. LSU poses the biggest threat to Bama year in and year out. Saban puts his bye week before LSU every year because he knows we are the biggest threat.
Let's not pretend like Saban looks at LSU as just another game on their schedule. Ole Miss is just another game on their schedule. Saban doesn't give a frick about them. That's why they've been able to sneak up on them and beat them the last two years.
Saban doesn't overlook LSU. That's why we are probably done beating Bama until he's gone.

You can't take anything on offense from the TT game at all!!!! It was literally almost the worst defense in the country, we should have been able to do anything and everything we wanted very, very well and we did. That game was no better than playing a Div II team almost.

It used to. Saban said so. But now he only needs 30 minutes to gameplan against us.

Coker's biggest plays last night were a pass to a TE behind the LOS, 2 wide open passes to a TE on busted coverages and a 3 flies in pass down the sideline.

No, ole miss beats Alabama because their coach isn't scared to death to put a football in the fricking air

I disagree.
Saban builds his team around his players and their strengths. Yes, he has a core "belief" of power football, but he won't force that if he doesn't have the personnel.
When Ingram was there they passed it out to him on screens and in the flat all the time. Henry facilitates the plan towards "smashmouth." Sims made them look almost like a spread offense.
So again, Saban builds around his players.
When you have 6-ish consecutive #1 classes, that's good enough to beat LSU and pretty much everyone.
Miles builds around his philosophy, regardless of players. He's either got to bend on his philosophy or start targeting 5* line men all day long and say goodbye to the 5* WRs and Athletes.

LSU needs to raise the salary cap for recruits to compete with Bama...and Ole Miss

And didn't win the west cus they can't run the ball.

DeShaun Watson threw it about 50 times for 400+ yards last night. Saban gave a frick about that game. When he gives a frick, they win. That's just how it is. I've come to accept it.

LSU needs to do several things in order to compete with Bama.
- Recruiting - Bama has an army of people to hand out info and can fly wherever whenever to meet with a recruit. They have a very large recruiting budget and part of that budget they have jobs available for kids parents, girlfriends, advisors, highschool mentors, etc..
- Strength & Conditioning. They have taken it to another level with their 4th qtr program and an incredible amount of money for food and nutrition. LSU has plans for a decent food and nutrition bldg. But they were delayed because of budget cuts to the university.
