Do You Agree Corporal Punishment (Spanking) Is Barbaric When You Think About It?

Got into an argument with my neighbor about this. He tries to be "old school" on everything and acts like things were always better back in the "good ol' days" which is before he even was born, so he's an idiot off the bat, but I digress...
Think abut it; who hits a child when they don't respond just the way the parent expects?
I don't see any difference in that and the way ISIS treats their enemies; only a barbaric loser will hit or kick a human/animal when it doesn't do what they want.
I know a lot of people were spanked when they were younger, but have we finally realized the absolute stone-age barbarism in that?
LOL if you spank your kids; you're taking your frustration out on them probably because you're poor.

It's all about the parents. I've never whipped my child.
I've wanted to whip a lot of other peoples' kids though.

Yeah time out always deters kids from bad behavior.

When my dog screws up, I sit him down and thoroughly explain what he did wrong and how it makes me feel.
I don't think he respects me.

ISIS should try timeouts on infidels.

frick no, a whipping, or hell even making the little demon spawn kneel on rice for a half hour, let's them know they messed up much more effectively than "Oh go sit in a corner". You know you fricked up as a kid when you hear a belt fly out of your dad's belt loops and think to yourself, "well, I won't do that stupid shite again."

Pain is an excellent teacher.
Doing it out of anger isn't good. But if they know that pain comes as a consequence to disobedience, then you must sit them down, explain to them that every action has a consequence, and deliver said consequence. You don't love them any less, and the pain is fleeting and impermanent. But it is necessary for conditioning.

Solid troll

Its not about hitting a kid because "they didn't respond how the parent expected". It's about correcting a behavioral issue. Instilling in them that there are consequences for doing wrong. Getting spanked is a lot nicer than the way nature teaches most species about consequences. And a lot better than the way the world will teach them as adults.
Not every punishment situation calls for spankings, but not every one can be handled with timeouts either. I got both as a kid. Spankings were much rarer than timeouts because I had to really act out and do something wrong to get a spanking and when I did get one I learned my lesson and watched my arse more than before.

Remove this and the troll won't be so obvious.

You must not have children, or were not raised to respect authority. A time out was laughable at best. It took a good beating to get the point across that shite just got real. To many parents wanting to be friends with their kids.

It is effective in changing behavior, but also teaches the child that violence/force/power is a valid means of education or reaching an end. It's the means of raising a child for those with limited intelligence or parenting skills.
It's a terrible idea.

Sometimes an attitude adjustment is in order. All children are different. What works for one will not work for the other.

I know plenty of people who weren't spanked that are very well adjusted and accomplished so I don't think it's required at all.
I also think some kids are just born shitty and nothing is going to fix them, spanking et al. Observations of good parents with multiple good kids and one super shitty one.

Are you arguing that it's Not a valid means of education or reaching an end?
When you were small and reached out and touched something hot, did you learn not to do it again because you had to "sit in a corner and think about what you'd done", or because it hurt?

Look fella, if I have to saw a few of my kids' heads off or burn a couple alive to teach them a lesson, well that's just the price of doing business. You can always make more.

You're trolling as hard as the OP now. A spanking is effective in certain situations. How it's done and when is an important aspect of its effectiveness. IVe had horses and dogs who needed a good wack. When applied quickly at the time of the transgression, corporal punishment was very effective. I myself was a kid who, in certain situations, only responded to a spanking.
Oh and violence/force/power is a valid means of reaching an end. Just ask the Japanese about Nagasaki and Hiroshima
