When comparing to the Elites? Yeah.
Hard to find a D. Thomas to Manny Sanders; Nelson to Cobb; Fitzgerald to Brown since they're the best in the game. Easier to find a Moncrief, Bryant, Wheaton, etc to your Cooks.

Yea, most receivers are better as a #2. It means you have more talent on the team
Honestly, we need another deep threat on offense. Paytons offense has always been best with 2 burners

You can be a true #1 and not be a top tier receiver. There's just a handful of those in the NFL
And while I agree that he isn't a true #1 yet, he's greatly improved in his time here. Hell, look at how he finished this season. He's a hard work who has the medium and deep route trees down. Need to work on his first step after catching a short pass
8 touchdowns in the last 9 games. Even with the slow start (Brees injury cost him a 50 yarder against the Bucs at least), he finished 14th in receiving yards.
Just 22 years old too

K...26 total games played.
This season:
First 11 games, one 100+ yard game.
Last 5 games, three 100+ yard games.
...he's just getting started.
Go check out loads of GREAT WR's first 20 games.

If you want a guy to replace Colston, Tyler Boyd from Pitt is the guy. He's big and can win on the outside, but makes his living in the slot. Snead and Cooks are both crafty and fast enough to hold down the outside, Boyd would bring back the seam balls.

I'm going to get hammered for this, but we can do much better than 30 catches and 500 yds out of our 3rd or 4th WR. It wouldn't be that hard to find a guy who could out produce BC. His value was his size and frankly, I didn't see enough wins on high points, jump balls, and back shoulders to be very impressed.
Colston did this well early in his career and Jimmy was freakish at it. I think that is really what the staff wanted out of BC. When your top 2 receivers are 5'10" you need a guy like that. Jmo

I don't think anyone is going to argue with you on that.
Two of our most prolific passing offenses:
2009: Colston 1074, Henderson 804, Meachem 722, Shockey 569
2011: Graham 1310, Colston 1143, Moore 627, Meachem 620, Henderson 503

People seem to like Coleman, that's why I made that comment.
The point is, his measure of success is not necessarily stats - someone else can come in and rack up better stats. Success for BC is in the Red zone, and he disappeared there all year.

Solid choice.
I'd like it obviously.

False. Not physical enough. see: playcalling this season. Short passes constantly. Screens. No receiver on the roster right now can win brawls outside the numbers with physical corners. They can't go up for the ball. Need physical WR on the outside to open up route tree for us.

I would say the offense did fine with those two as the top pass catchers. Antonio Brown, arguably the best WR in the league right now, is not the biggest, fastest, nor strongest guy. He's crafty as hell and because of that he wins on the outside. You don't need big, strong, fast receivers on the outside. What you need are good receivers. If they happen to be large, that's a bonus.
Also you're wrong about the passing game. All of our bubble screens were terrible. Snead and Cooks played well at all levels: short, intermediate, and deep. Cooks is obviously the better of the two on the deep balls because of his speed. If you think everything was a short pass then you must have been watching another team. If I'm going to criticize any part of Cooks game it's that he has very few YAC.

I mean we absolutely aired the ball out deep once Brees got his shoulder healed up. we've always thrown a ton of short routes too
Don't forget about our oline woes this year too. We should have been running more quick routes

That isn't really how our offense has been set up under Payton. We put the big, physical receiver in the slot and attack the seam. We were able to work the sidelines again this year, but that is mostly to do with timing
Lance Moore spent the majority of his time out there. Cooks, Snead, and another burner are perfect for that role in our offense. We need Coleman to step up inside

Sign Ladarius Green, draft Tyler Boyd in the 2nd or Rashad Higgins in the 3rd (maybe grab a late round OG) and call it a day for the offense.

Coleman will take on Colston role in this offense. We do need a true number 1 maybe in the second round we can go that direction

I've seen a few people say this but there's no way San Diego is going to let him go. I think he is a RFA too which means at the least SD would put a tender on him and any team would have to give up a pick to get him, and I don't see us giving up a what would likely take about a 3rd rd pick for him and have to give him a nice contract on top of that

Coleman can't hold Colston's jock at this point. Coleman, a guy who couldn't even make the roster last year at a position of need, shouldn't be compared to the all time receiving and scoring leader in Saints history. WR is a need!

From everything I've seen, he's an UFA. But yeah, he will be in high demand. The only thing we can offer is crazy offensive numbers and chances at pro bowls.

massive potential and athleticism. But he couldn't beat out a 35 year old Gates in his 4th year and with the lack of weapons at WR? Either the Gates-Rivers connection is THAT good or Green's potential is more limited than we think.
Posted on 1/8/16 at 2:19 pm to htran90
Gates is one of the best to ever play the position, so it's hard to hold that against Green who is a solid player in his own right. I don't think he's that good, but he's likely to be the top TE available on the market this year which should rule the Saints out.
If they're serious about bringing in a veteran TE that isn't Ben Watson, Dwayne Allen should be the target. He is a solid blocker and pass catcher with decent athleticism, and Indy is unlikely to keep him over Coby Fleener. He's also only 25.

If we're gonna get a TE, I hope people don't expect a 1k+ yard player. You want a guy who can block as well as make those hard catches that you need to sustain drives.
Watson played very well, had a lot of nice drive sustaining catches. I want to add onto that and eventually replace it.
I don't trust Coleman yet, we've been fooled by toon before
