Good--but, this will mean the vets on defense will have had to adapt to 3 different systems in 3 years. Tough at any level.
From Steele's point of view, he probably left because of the uncertain future with Les given what happened with the "stay or go" fiasco.

Chavis held ole miss to 7, bama to 10 in regulation, and Arkansas to 17 last year. It started off bad with welter, and had become great later in the year.
All 3 of those teams scored 30+ on Steele. Only 2 teams scored under 20 pts on Steele all year, MSU and A&M.
Edit: only reason MSU (19) didn't score 20 was bc they went for 2 at 19pts.
If you are happy holding one team all yr (A&M) to under Chavis' 6 yr avg then yes, Steele is a solid DC.

Steele fell into a pretty good situation. Other than the d-line there was a ton of depth, and talent. Hard to screw up with that Mich talent on the field.
In my opinion running around in zone made no since what so ever. You have great athletes back there and need to put them on an island. I wonder how much input Steele had on the game plan last night. That was the most aggressive defense LSU has had since the 2011 year. The d-line controlled the game.

It's just a thing IMO. While I think he would have made us respectable by year three, I think others can do the same thing. People forget it's more about the players than the coaching on defense.
Plus he's had a problem with keeping people out of the endzone. Even in 2008 with the Frankenstein DCs, we kept 5 teams below 20 points and at least 4 below 14. We couldn't even keep 3 below 20 this year and only 1 was below 14.

This right here, Im sick of LSU Granddad and his constant preaching mediocrity on our coaches.
Granddad do you ever lead with your fricking head and not your heart moron? Or are you just as happy getting our arse kicked in the 90s like where the program was headed a few weeks back? You don't know shite about football. Numbers do not LIE fool.

Chavis gave up more points in other SEC games.. had no impact plays.. and often blew games late.
LSU's defense was better yards wise because of inferior games.
Steele's defense was better vs Miss St and Auburn than a year prior. Steele's defense was better in the bowl game, given the competition. TT was #2 scoring offense in the NCAA. They got theirs but we made plays when needed.
Chavis left us pretty thin at linebacker and dline, but at least we are addressing it. I hope we can get a DT to secure that up

Depends on who we replace him with.

Positigers will say good. Negatigers will say bad... And so goes the rant.
Positigers were the ones saying he would be an upgrade over Chavis. Negatigers thought he was a shitty hire all along. The positigers will now flip their stance on him so they can stay positive. I think we're all in unison with him leaving now though.

Steele won with talented players. I've not like him all year. The D still looked clueless at times even in last nights bowl game. Give the DC job to coach O. Auburn will be worse off with him. Chavez was better.

-But yes, Chavis wasn't perfect: pass rush and recruiting were becoming issues.
-But also, Steele is a bad DC IMO. I think if you close your eyes and throw a dart at a map you will likely find a better coordinator (not recruiter)

Good - 299 yards rushing by Arkansas, 210 yards rushing by Derrick Henry alone and passing/running at will by Ole Miss offense = November Blues

Both those teams had much better offenses last year. Also, Ole Miss, Bama and Arkansas scored on us at will this year. Last year, we gave up 44 points combined to those teams. They averaged 33 points a game on us this year.

In regulation we gave up 34 combines to those 3 last year I believe, then bama scores from the 25 in OT.
So every one of those 3 teams this season scored about what they all scored combined last season in regulation.
-Roster wise we pretty much traded Collins for toliver, hunter for key, and Kwon for debo, and the rest of the guys are a year older.
-bama was arguably a better offense in 2014, ole miss was still a great offense in 2014, and Arkansas had a healthier backfield in 14 though Allen has played better this year.

Depends on of his departure has an immediate negative impact on any recruits. Wasn't he supposed to be an accomplished recruiter?
Posted on 12/30/15 at 5:28 pm to LSUfan389
To me, it's all about the recruiting class.
If it has no impact, then the change could very well be a good move.
If it hurts this class, then regardless of the hire, I think it will be a net negative.
