Someone just start a high river thread

The extended forecast is calling for temps to get back into the 70's. 7th & 8th. That is problematic for the Miss Valley. These major rain/weather events are being caused by cold fronts slamming against the gulfs warm/moist air. If one of these fronts stalls out, we are gonna be in trouble. It's raining again in S La today. Our levees are saturated & won't have a chance to dry before the crest. Gravity & hydraulics is a mofo.

Also. Can anyone imagine if the New Madrid fault line became active in the month?

Rivers burn, then run backwards.

Love me some Caddo Lake. Wouldn't want to be there when it was formed.

I was always under the impression that it was more the great red river raft that allowed backwater to flood what is now the lake (with the man made dam). I thought Reelfoot was known to be formed from the New Madrid quake but Caddo was always theoretical.

The Caddo Indains account is that the 1811-1812 earthquake formed it.
The Shreveport court house hadn't opened up to collect records yet.

I have a feeling Terrebonne parish is going to regret the decision to take the Gibson lock out of commission for refurbishing. Plan was to get it done before spring time i don't think anyone foresaw the morganza possibly opening in winter.

Lil useless knowledge for ya. The first well ever drilled & completed over water was on Lake Caddo.

The 1811-1812 earthquake caused the jam also. So I guess I can see how people might try to argue that point, but you gotta get down to that root cause. The jam did help hold water in the lake though.

So what about the river say... In the next two weeks vs 1811
Posted on 12/30/15 at 12:26 pm to jimjackandjose
Rivers are gonna keep running south. No comparison there. Everything connected to the Mississippi ran backwards for days.

According to NOAA the river should crest here in Memphis on Jan 11 at 52.5 feet "Additional rises are possible thereafter"

Does anyone have a link to the bonnet carre opening. I have a camp on the south shore that I will have to get some belongings from and I'm sure you won't be able to drive on the guide levee
