I think it's more respectful than anything. Honoring the traditions of others that you don't believe in so as not to offend them or be confrontational about something that means a hell of a lot more to them than it does to you? How could that be wrong?
It's words. Who gives a shite?

Since Christmas, in reality has nothing to do with Jesus and everything to do with pagan rituals and mass marketing, no non Christian should be offended.

I'm not religious. But I put up with it for my family.

I'm an atheist but love Christmas - the whole Santa thing is what it's really about, right? And I still love the preachy Christmas specials like The Little Drummer Boy. I can still appreciate the "mythology" of the whole Jesus thing. And those "militant" atheist types are just nauseating.

And yes. I do believe that there was a dude named "Jesus" who walked the earth, but do I think he turned water into wine? ...I wish. I don't feel like I'm being a hypocrite by saying it to my mother who still practices Catholicism... (But maybe I am?) Can anyone give me a reason as to *why* I do this? I'm just not that big enough of an a-hole to cause drama over something as trivial (in my mind) as saying "Merry Christmas"... Please advise.
No. It's just polite and a cultural custom unless there's something genuinely offensive about it to you. I wish Jewish friends well on their holidays (that I was aware of) and did the same for Muslim associates when I lived in the Middle East. I probably wouldn't extend similar courtesies to a Satanist.

What kind of society is this where this is even a question? ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconbanghead.gif)

You should definitely stop anyone who tells you Merry Christmas and inform them of all your beliefs.
This could be followed up by letting them know why you are a vegan. People love to hear about that.

What's the alternative? "You're not Christian? Then have a lousy December 25"?
Posted on 12/24/15 at 7:52 am to LucasP
Jesus Christ is the Son of the living God. He was crucified, died, and raised from the dead by the Father. He paid your sin debt on the cross. No man may come to the father but by Him. You will meet him one day and give an account for your life. We all will. That's all I have to say. Merry Christmas to all.

Other than militant atheists, who is it bothering?

Gotta give it to ya, believing something coming from nothing takes a lot of faith. Merry Christmas!

I don't mind telling people Merry Christmas if they say it to me. I will though say Happy Holidays first.
I'm not very religious, but it seems like my whole family is still exchanging gifts with everyone. We are all adults now and it mainly seems to be for the children. We buy for everyone though! I'm growing kinda tired of it.

I do it and I am a non believer.
I celebrate Christmas because I see it as a great family get together holiday.
My wife had to deal with these idiot people the other day that go around demanding they be told Merry Christmas and ask for a manager when they don't hear it. These dicks kill Christmas more than non believers.

That doesn't sound very Christian of them.

What a stupid question.
How do you people function in day to day life? Assuming you do, that is.
