I know I sound like a bitch but thinking about what could have been makes me want to cry. That was a once in a lifetime team and I'm glad I got to witness it.

I hate to say this, but teams in that discussion don't get dominated like they did that night.

The college football world should be ashamed for what they did to LSU.

97% of the season we we would have been considered the greatest of all time. Stop acting like its so far fetched. We were 4 quarters away from this happening from a full season. Had ok state not chocked against 5 touchdown underdog we would be having this discussion.

Would it be considered the greatest season in college football history over Miami?
Of course, which was why the rematch was needed.
LSU is not one of the programs that the CFB elites and the media wants having a season like that.
When the GOTC didn't turn out the way it was supposed to, something had to be done. Mission accomplished and history went the way the CFB elites wanted.
LSU fans still aren't over it to this day, nor do many still know their rightful place.

Sad. Instead of being remembered as LSU/Les' crowning achievement and cementing LSU's elite program status, it ended up proving once again how great and dominant Saban and Bama are, and proved to the media types how smart they are for handing them the rematch. "See? LSU had no business beating Darth Saban, so we made them play again, and we were right at along!".

U mean we didn't !!!!!!!!WTF

Greatest season...yes
Greatest team...not even close
I still claim it's the greatest regular season in college football history.
Beat the Pac 12 champs, the big east champs, Alabama at Bama, and several other ranked teams as well.

We played the #1 toughest schedule in the nation and won every game by an average of 28 points.
I've already forgotten how dominant that team was. That stat is crazy!

If I never heard about 1/9 again that would be terrific.

The interesting thing is that LSU could have won back to back Titles in 2011 and 2012. And the field goal was a big reason why not. In 2011, Oklahoma State misses a field goal at the end of regulation, and against Alabama in 2012, Drew Alleman misses two field goals in a 4 point loss.

It's too bad LSU and Bama both had such great teams that year. Bama would have slammed any other team much worse than they beat us in that game.
In the regular season, the two teams were pretty much equals. They did have a better QB than we did (he was better than Jefferson and didn't have Lee's happy feet when under pressure). If you compared the games against the two team's common opponents that year, the margin of victory was remarkably similar.
Short summary of the NC is that Saban opened up his offense and used his QB advantage while Miles kept pounding the RB into the defense, expecting to wear them down in the 4th quarter. Unfortunately, that didn't happen.

Absolutely GOAT in college history. Outstanding every where on the field except the most important postion QB. In spite of that weakness we were dominant all year until we were fortunate to beat the Gumps 9-6, with typical overly conservative play by Coach Miles. The weakness at QB and no real game plan on offense in championship game came back to absolutely destroy all that the team had done all year. Since they didn't finish, its been my most heartbreaking season LSU every had. What would have made is so great is beating the hated gumps twice in same season. It just enhanced my hatred of that team 2 states east.
FOREVER LSU
FOREVER LSU

I'm still baffled as to what happened on 01/09.

That game was the best-coached game of Miles' career. Pick something else to pick on him about.

I still marvel at how relevant Wing was to that season. Good lord, do special teams matter. It got to be almost comical how often he was downing balls inside the 5. And I'll never forget him flipping the field on Bama with that 70-yarder.

Sorry but even with another bama win. I'll take 1995 Nebraska as the best ever. And I don't think lsu 2011 would have beaten 2001 Miami. A great great reg season but that loss to bama has seemed to haunt this program from that point
