In law gifts are pretty funny. I'm not a big whiskey drinker. My ex FIL would always give me a bottle of whiskey. Different ones each year. I would save them and give them back to him the following year. Whatever I got this year, he got next year. He never caught on, and was always so happy to get it.

I think she's getting you cocoa butter.

I don't partake in it but I have no issue with people that do.

We did an ugly Christmas sock thing. Any adult in the family that wanted to participate was to buy an ugly pair of socks and stuff them with whatever. Then everyone pulled numbers and picked socks.

Turned out to be pretty fun.

The worst is the one where you can steal presents from the other person. People always get pissed. Always. Stealing better presents from others. Pretty sure that's what Jesus was hoping his birthday would evolve into.

It works for an office setting I guess. Not so much for family.

My brothers are so hard to buy for, and I'm sure I'm no breeze either. We just give to the kids, our godchildren and mother.

I love giving gifts. We give all parents and step parents gifts, and we do a secret Santa deal with just my siblings and their spouses, and on my wife's side, siblings and certain cousins and their spouses. So it works out to seven gifts to parents and four gifts to siblings/cousins.

And of course all the chirren get awesome presents from their awesome aunt and uncle.

I don't know. I've seen some hurt feelings in the office setting and it carry over. But it is worse with family. I once stole an LSU mug from my dad, and I could see clearly he was pissed off about so I gave it back and ended up with some flannel throw blanket or some shite.

One year my mother in law will finally just give in and give me a giftcard someplace. I will say the years she gives me jewelry she always picks out great stuff that I love and wear all the time.

I don't care how "boring" it is...give me a giftcard and you just gave me two gifts. I get to go shopping and get myself something I may not normally buy for myself.

The adults still exchange gifts, but our family isn't that big. 4 siblings, 1 BIL, 1 SIL, mom and dad, 1 nephew, 2 nieces. My sister also exchanges with her in-laws which is a little more, but still only 1 kiddo. That kid is going to start racking up in the next couple of years.

Pretty sure some of the other Catholic-lite denominations do it too.

I'm pretty sure both Jesus and his cousin were non-denominational.

I just know they don't do god children at my church. Baptisms are not done until a child is older and wants to be baptized or when they are an adult.

Our church will dedicate babies though if a couple wishes it.
