I constantly see people on here defend this guy and he may be the most useless pile of crap bball player to ever step on the court. And the bad thing is that we were dumb enough to resign him. I mean he can't block, rebound, or score. Wtf does he do? And please refrain from telling me how he has a good contract for what he does cuz it aint flying anymore. The guy sucks!!!

Didn't you hear? In two years his contract will be a great deal.

This year, not much. His primary strength is rebounding and he provided that pretty well last season taking what is normally a below average rebounding team and making them a top 10 rebounding team. Last year he also was very good at keeping people out of the paint and forcing them into lower percentage mid range shots, the goal of most defenses. It's not something that shows up in the basic stats or is obvious to see on every play. However he just hasn't been very good this year.

Resigning him to a short term deal would have been ok, resigning him to a 5 year deal was stupid. I'd have given him 2/$30 with a player option in the 2nd year. $30 in 2 should have been enough to get him to sign short term rather than 4/$44, and if you're lucky he opts out and you only paid him $15 for a year in which you couldn't have done anything else with that money anyway.

Yeah. And the other thing is, as much criticism as he got last year, I honestly don't recall him looking as consistently inept as he has so far this season. It's mind boggling.

Just throwing this out there...

Had a +11 net rating in 9 minutes last night. Jrue was the only other player whose figure was far enough on the positive side of the ledger to be noticeable.

He hasn't been nearly as bad as the mob would lead you to believe. He absolutely helps on the boards even when he doesn't personally get the rebound. Can anyone be expected to find a rhythm in 10 mpg?

I've defended Asik as much as anyone on this board but he's just hasn't been up to his own standard this year. His rebounds are down to 10.3 per 36 vs a career average of 13.3 If he's going to be an average rebounder instead of an elite rebounder, what's the point of playing him with the other negatives he brings? Hopefully it's just health/mental, because if not it's fit and we have no hope of it improving.

There is also the effect of shooting a bunch of bricks from outside versus driving runners and layups. Longer shots typically result in longer rebounds. Crappy defense = more more made shots. Crappy defense = more helping on open drives = worse rebounding positioning.

Sure, Asik has seen his numbers go down, but the issues are not so superficial.

True, which points to a fit issue. I know Gentry said Running is a habit, but I don't see why they can't take Fisher's suggestion and have Asik on the 2nd unit and slow it down. Put Asik, Tyreke and 3 shooters on the 2nd unit, slow it down and ugly it up for about 10-15 minutes a game while AD gets his rest.

This is really a dumb thing to complain about. While he isn't a stud all around player, he isn't the worst ever. He isn't on a stupid contract for his talent that is destroying our cap space.

Honestly I can only see this thread as frustration for a team underperforming with its assets. The team would really benefit from getting Pondexter back; however, the team has talent all over the floor and is just not getting it done overall.

I disagree. We just went from finally about to get rid of EG's contract, even though he did play well last year, to now having this dumb arse's contract for the next 4 years.

We signed him b/c had we not, we might not have had a center other than Ajinca. Well, i'd rather have had Ajinca and some 10 day contract Tony Douglass type center for this year than be tied down to this big ogre for the next 4 years. He was pretty worthless last year and he's even more worthless this year.
Just a stupid stupid decision to give him that contract.
Given his decline in health, and his pathetic skill set, he should have been let go, somehow traded for just about anything, or signed to a 1 year deal.

We made two moves last year, signing this dumbass to a 4 year contract and hiring a loser for a coach.

Not a fun time to be a sports fan in south louisiana with the direction of the football and basketball teams in NO and BR.

Makes too much sense, like playing the fastest PG in the NBA who looks to move the ball first and score second when you run a motion offense. Gentry is a dumbass, though.

I would respond to you, but it's pointless. Just keep rabbling.

I don't like Asik, and I don't like Gentry. There's not much else to say about it, and it's pretty difficult at this time for there to be any reasonable rebuttal to it.
