So this random question was posed to a few of us yesterday by someone who was trying to make a point, that being there weren't many good rock bands to come out of that era.

The question specifically was that the band had to originate in '85-'90, so any band that put out stuff before 85 for instance doesn't count, even if they were peaking in the late 80s.

We had a hard time coming up with many. Bands that made the list were...

Pearl Jam
Alice in Chains
Nirvana

Since it wasn't a "your favorite band" list, I tossed in Smashing Pumpkins, Cows, and some other underground gems that the others never heard of.

So, who would you add to that list?

A lot of good bands listed so far. I would add Opeth and Meshuggah. Both are extremely innovative in their own way.

When was GnR formed?

If between 85-90, then there is your answer.

I'll throw in Hum, formed 1989, since everyone else has been mentioned.
