Best bands who formed between 1985-1990

So this random question was posed to a few of us yesterday by someone who was trying to make a point, that being there weren't many good rock bands to come out of that era.
The question specifically was that the band had to originate in '85-'90, so any band that put out stuff before 85 for instance doesn't count, even if they were peaking in the late 80s.
We had a hard time coming up with many. Bands that made the list were...
Pearl Jam
Alice in Chains
Nirvana
Since it wasn't a "your favorite band" list, I tossed in Smashing Pumpkins, Cows, and some other underground gems that the others never heard of.
So, who would you add to that list?

I like that you have the album cover as your avatar, yet didn't mention Neutral Milk Hotel.
1985-90 was one of the most fertile time periods in the history of American indie. It's when the genre was essentially born, rising out of the ashes of hardcore which died, roughly, in 1985. But while the mainstream was pumping out tons of Motley Crue clones, the American underground was experienced its golden age (the "college rock" period).
You had classic punk bands form such as Dag Nasty, Mr T Experience, Jawbreaker, Bouncing Souls, Sunny Day Real Estate, the Promise Ring, Nation of Ulysses, Dance Hall Crashers, L7, Op Ivy, Bikini Kill, and of course, Fugazi.
Additionally, there was an explosion of college rock: Drivin N Cryin, Indigo Girls, Mr. Bungle, Faith No More, Rev. Horton Heat, King Missle, Screaming Trees, Breeders, Pixies, Sundays, Superchunk, Mudhoney, and the like.
And you even had Britpop such as Blur, Oasis, Stone Roses, Crowded House, and the Housemartins.
It was an awesome time for music. Just awesome.
