Wait.
Is op dumb enough to claim that universities don't take race into account when evaluating applicants?

Nope. You are making a leap [off of a cliff and into the abyss]. I am on record being pro-equality, which means against discrimination, racism, AND affirmative action. OP is saying that this woman and her family are fools for taking this case to court.

It’s true that the university, for whatever reason, offered provisional admission to some students with lower test scores and grades than Fisher. Five of those students were black or Latino. Forty-two were white. Neither Fisher nor Blum mentioned those 42 applicants in interviews. Nor did they acknowledge the 168 black and Latino students with grades as good as or better than Fisher’s who were also denied entry into the university that yeaR

Good post, but I'm sure it'll boil down to reflexive whining. I'm not entirely comfortable with race as a standalone consideration in admissions, but there should be a reasonable way to address this debate. This girl kinda sucks as a representative "wronged" white student.

Best part of Aa is self-righteous white people who volunteer other whites to give up their opportunities for "equality"

Let me be another poster who noticed this bit since you didn't:

OTOH the article is odd.
It asserts provisional admission was only allowed to only 47 students with lower test scores and grades than Fisher. It also says 168 black and Latino students with grades as good as or better than Fisher's denied entry. Those are talking points regurgitated from UT lawyers.
But are they being truthful?
For example, they claim 168 black and Latino students with grades as good as or better than Fisher's were denied entry. But 168 out of how many applicants? Those numbers would be juxtaposed with 8000 incoming Freshman in the class, >25% of whom are Latino/Black. One would assume the applicant pool to be far larger than the number of admissions. Given those numbers, 168 actually appears diminutive.
Then there is the claim that only 47 students with lower scores were admitted. 47 students out of 8000? Really? Her SAT score was 1180. 1140 is the 25th percentile UT admission score. So her scores were as good or better than roughly 30% of the class.
In other words some of the UT claims, parroted by the OP, appear dubious at best. In fact on the face of it, they appear to be an outright lie.

I know you think this is some great gotcha, but it just shows the same shite you should always expect from salon.
When mentioning the poorer performing students that were admitted ahead of this girl they mention grades and test scores. However, when trying to claim there were better performing minorities that were also not admitted, salon only mentions grades.
If this girl went to high school in sugar land and these other applicants went to shitty high schools, grades are borderline irrelevant.
Was this girl a good candidate for this particular fight? Maybe not. There are probably many better. Would she have been admitted if she was black? More likely than being white. And that's a problem.

UT uses the 10% rule which is dumb. They basically automatically admit the top 10% of any graduating HS class in Texas. You will see some kids transfer from their HS to a less competitive HS just to ensure they can get in. It's pretty hard to get in if you aren't in that 10%

I volunteered at a local inner city high school to talk to kids about college. I met the salutatorian. I'll try to say this in the most gracious was possible and likely fail miserably. She did not come across as the caliber of person I would expect to be salutatorian of a high school. But because she was, she was going to A&M.

I'm not really in the business of letting liberals skate on the intellectual hypocrisy of decrying every institution they believe is making determinations based on race and do not produce the demography they desire while supporting determinations based on race that do produce the demography they desire.

You nailed it, NC. On all points.
I did this for a living at one point in my life. I couldn't have stated it any better than you did. Kudos.

Finally, this.
When I was at LSU, we were able to recruit HUNDREDS of scholarship-eligible students (every demographic) from the state of Texas because of this rule. It always amazed me that they would do this, but it is their choice.
As for the "victim" in the OP, I understand exactly what the OP is doing. Good for you. However, if you ever had the "pleasure" of sitting on these types of committees and seeing/hearing the ignorance spewed while these SJW types skew admissions standards in order to make themselves feel good, you wouldn't be so "proud" of situations like this. It isn't just "ugly white girls" that get fricked over with this mentality.
The road to hell today is always paved with good SJW intentions.
Oh the stories I could tell, but I won't.

You may not be, but I can tell you they have been winning this battle long before you even knew it was being fought.
