Hey y'all, long time lurker, recently gotten into the posting game. I've got a question that's been on my mind for some time now, and it's gotten louder in my mind since this whole Les Miles debacle.

Y'all talk about "true fans" but how can one measure the amount of fandom one possesses opposed to another? And don't the people who talk about true fans know that no matter how much LSU football stuff they buy, that their support will be a non-factor when it comes to some of the more nitty-gritty choices in the program.

Look, I describe myself as a true fan of LSU Tigers Football, I love going to the games, I own a couple LSU hats and I have my lucky ULM gameday shirt (long story on that one folks). I can't remember the last time I've stayed until the end of the game, I think it was New Mexico State last year- and only because I had a relative who didn't want to leave ( ). But I am a true fan, been bleeding gold and purple since day one. So this talk brings me great confusion.

So what are your takes?

If you don't like Les Miles, you will be name called and tormented and basically told that your opinion doesn't matter.

Man talking about a shitty team. At least they had enough sense to fire their coach.

It's a meaningless bullshite term.

Take fan A and B, one is me and one is a friend of mine.

A- Can tell you about every scholarship player on the team from the moment he was recruited and spends hours on message boards. Doesn't go to any games live or spend money on LSU sports.

B- Couldn't name more than five players on the team and has a pretty mediocre understanding of rules and football intricacies. Goes to almost every game, home and away.

Which is the true fan here? Most would say A, but B is tangibly supporting the program, while A is not.

Fan is short for fanatic. A core characteristic of a fanatic is extreme and unreasoned enthusiasm, often marked by irrational belief in and defense of a cause.

With this knowledge, it becomes easier to spot true fan(atics) and those more aptly described as enthusiasts (those with a high level of interest).

True fans don't wish for their team to lose or do badly just because they don't like the coach. True fans are still going to go to games and cheer. There have been some on this site that have said that they will not spend anymore money with regards to LSU football so long as Les Miles is the coach. You know who you are.

We all have our own opinions on what should be done and I'm not saying one opinion is better than another, although I do disagree with some of y'all. The thing that gets me are all the people that are so doom and gloom about next year already. The people that don't realize that, other than the bowl game, this year is over. And the people that "aren't going to that shite bowl game because it's a shite bowl against a shite team." Nobody is happy with the way the season went. But some are already ready to give up on the team for the bowl game and next year. And you are going to have people who will come on here and say "next year u again. When are you stupid pumpers going to realize that it'll never change?"

Nobody at the start of the season truly thought LSU would be in the CFP this year and most had us pegged to lose 3 games this year before the season. More people than not were saying that 2016 would be the year for the Tigers, and that includes some of you ultra negas. If you truly don't want to show the support this team deserves, then take a year off. Be a "true fan" and support the Tigers in the bowl game and next season.

I started going to the games as a little kid with my dad when Curly Hallman was coach. We never had tickets. We'd walk around the stadium with our fingers up and most of the time people would just give us their tickets. By half time, sometimes before, the stadium would be almost empty and we'd go sit on the 50 right behind the bench. I asked my dad why would people with such great seats leave before the game was over. He said there are 2 kinds of fans, fair weather fans who only support the team when they do well and true Tiger fans who support the team no matter what. Real fans stay till the end of the game. The players deserve that.

I make that decision. My methodology is proprietary.

I don't know if "true" fans is a real term. My take is this.

1. It's hard for me to think of someone as a fan if they pull for the team to lose under any circumstance, whether it's to prove they are right about the need for a coaching change, to prove the coaching change was a mistake, to win a bet, etc.

In terms of the coaching conversations, it's OK to think those things, maybe even OK to say I told you so but not OK to be revel in being right, IMO. If I think the worst about an LSU team, coach, player, or upcoming game, I want to be proven wrong. But that's just me

2. You should not care at all about other peoples opinions about your fandom, not even mine.

If you don't worship at the altar of Les is more you aren't a true LSU fan, regardless of how much you actually love LSU football.

Wanting better for the program is verboten. All that counts is what's good for Les.

The only true fans are those who always root for the brand/school and the program, and who are willing to support team and single years events that support the program/school/brand over the big picture.

The others are fools.

It's like saying who is really in love. The word means different things to different people.

If you shite on Miles tenure just because he doesn't pass the ball as much as you like you aren't a true fan.
If your loyalty to Miles doesn't end the day he stops being lsu's coach, you aren't a true fan.

It might be useful to take it out of the instant context and look at different teams and even different sports:

Take the Boston Red Sox - there have been fans who have followed and rooted for the team for years - through generations even. And there have been fans who jumped on when they finally won a Word Series. Is one group of fans more "true" than another. (or maybe more fanatical than another since that is the underlying word - fanatic). I have my opinion but like others have said it is something everyone has to determine for themselves.

If you don't worship Less Miles or if you complain at all you will be labeled a nega.
