Chemistry question for the OT

Let's say I have a reef tank with 315 gallons of water. Let's also say that the company who (used) to manage it for me fricked up the salinity.
How much freshwater do I need to add to reduce the specific gravity of 315 gallons of saltwater from 1.030 to 1.025?

Trick question, if you add any fresh water it will no longer be 315 gallons.

Do your own homework.

While not "classically trained" in the art of chemistry, I'll say that I've never had a problem that couldn't be solved with sulphuric acid or lime. Google them and see if they can help.

Make sure to give your fish a nice eulogy before flushing

what is the S.G. of the salt water now?

Not homework. Real life situation for me.
I can manage it going over 315 gallons. There's room in the sump to absorb extra water without fricking up the skimmer.

What is the age of aquarium, Alex?

Seems like more of a math question than chemistry.. But I'd guess that 1.24 gal of distilled should do the trick

Changing concentration of a solution isn't chemistry related? I don't care if it's fricking english. I'd like to fix this without hit or miss testing a million times.

Gotta specify the temperature, brah. 25 C?

Is it really that easy? .005*315?
Posted on 12/7/15 at 8:18 pm to TigerFanatic99
Just with a ratio...
315/1.025 = X/1.030
316.53
so add 1.53 gal?
Note you are using two different units...
g/cm3 vs gal
315/1.025 = X/1.030
316.53

No it is not that fricking easy. Google entropy and differential equations.

What is the specific gravity of the h2o being added?
Hint, it isnt 1.000

Shut the frick up, rock nerd. He asked about chemistry, not what a vagina doesn't feel like.

Nice try. I'm not going to help you make meth
