Our University president came down on the side of keeping academics safe.
because he painted himself into a corner with his scare tactic "bankruptcy" comments to the legislature months ago. So the football program must suffer to save face for his idiotic fear mongering and posturing.

agreed, unfortunately state legislatures' perception is more important than the facts about where the money comes from when making funding decisions regarding LSU
And we are poised for a special session this Jan/Feb to discuss a more permanent funding structure for LSU/higher-Ed.
Would have been a disaster to make this move just a month or two before he spends weeks lobbying the legislature for the entire University.

so this is no vote of confidence for Miles at all, really. it was a "people will be mean to us if we do it" kind of decision.

So what was his justification for allowing all of the media to attack the LSU brand for two weeks if this was known all along? Why not nip this in the bud right away?
This is the real question that needs to be answered. Where is the communication between Alleva and Alexander? How did it ever get to this point?

guys, they couldn't handle the political pressure. he's right - politicians would've gone nuts grandstanding about the waste of money, no matter that none of it came from public coffers. American people, including louisianaians, are that stupid these days.
they didn't have the stomach for it.
remember this, too - they would not be at liberty, out of privacy and consideration, to go into negotiating details. it is quite likely that this played a factor, and they pulled the plug to avoid the headache since they were not guaranteed a sure thing.
time to just let it go. I have.

How can you blame alleva here? He was trying to save the program and got undercut by a short sighted a-hole.
MOTHER frickING THIS!!!
Alleva is responsible for the leak that ultimately damaged the brand LSU and Miles going forward.
The leak happened on his watch.
M'Fer THIS

What makes me the maddest is why start down the path
you should know from the very start yeah that is going to look bad lets not look into it or yeah that is private money lets can this grass eater.
This absolutely worst case scenario in my opinion.

That was really infuriating to read, I honestly wish I hadn't.

pretty much. Way to hand over some great negative recruiting ammo to our competitors, "they wanted to fire the guy, the president just didn't want to spend the money. You're going to go play for him?"

i don't care for Alexander. i think all his crap this past spring about the budget was just scare tactics.
but atleast we got to keep Miles....so there's always a silver lining

Wow. fire this asshat
He's probably correct, but most knowledgeable football fans do know. He's pretty damn arrogant.

I don't believe the leak came from alleva's end

This line of thinking is why LSU is NOW a mediocre program at best.

This is the real question that needs to be answered.
That's not hard to figure out. It is clear that Alexander was willing to play as long as Jimbo was available. Once that target went beyond what he was initially willing to pay he called the whole thing off. He was not willing to fork over that kind of cash for a lesser name.

Was it this sonofabitch's money?
If not, then STFU.
If a bunch of private donors want to throw their money in a trash can, it's none of this motherfricker's business.

Alexander probably should have kept his mouth shut on this one. Or at least blamed the media for blowing the Miles thing out of proportion because he "was always staying" or something.

This is a huge question. I would find it difficult to believe that Alexander had these thoughts come to him at the 11th hour, so how did he let it go so far?
Regardless on how you feel about Miles being here or not, I think everyone can agree that Alexander fricked up royally and needs to go.

Smart decision. People will blast him, but it's still real money people. Our academics are struggling to stay afloat yet we were fine with ponying up 20+mil to make a football coaching change? I mean people have to have some kind of perspective here.
Although I do think this is ridiculous
Like really, you guys all got together after halftime or something?
