How much do speeding tickets affect your insurance?

I haven't had any speeding tickets in years. Suddenly I've got 2 in 2 months - one for 90 in a 70, and one last night for 89 in a 70. Paid the first one ($225), but I'm wondering if it is worth fighting the new one. My understanding is that a lawyer can usually plead it down to a non-moving violation or whatever.
I'm calling bullshite on the one last night. I was in the flow of traffic on I-10 and saw the trooper pretty far ahead, so by reflex I slowed down. My radar/laser detector did NOT go off, and that sumbitch picks up EVERYTHING and distinguishes between all bands of radar and laser. It went apeshit when the laser hit me on the first ticket, but I had just cranked up Slayer on the stereo and didn't hear it.
I was quite surprised when the guy pulled me over last night, as were my wife and kid, since we saw him well in advance. When he told me "89," I asked him how he clocked me. When he said laser, I told him my laser detector did not go off. He said, "Are you telling me you have a detector, because they are illegal?" I conversed with him about that and even checked while he went back to his car. EVERY piece of info I can find online says they are perfectly legal to own and operate (even laser jammers are legal in LA). When he came back with the ticket, I asked him if he has a new magic laser that avoids detection, and he said, "There is no such thing as a laser detector - you can detect radar but not laser."
bullshite. My Passport 9500ix has a specific alarm for laser, and it detects it every time. I'm calling bullshite - I think he pulled 89 out of his arse and did not laser me.However, if it's just going to make a minimal difference (couple hundred bucks) in my insurance, I'll just pay the damn thing. Insurance is State Farm, btw.

How long has it been since your last one? Isn't there a rule where if you haven't had one in a long time there's something you go to the court and say to get it knocked down to a warning basically?

Well…the last one before last night's was only 2 months ago.

Depends on how often your insurance companies run your MVR. They might not catch it at first.

Last ticket I got was in Henderson and when I called the courthouse about the ticket I was told that if I just pay the ticket before the court date that they wouldn't file it on my insurance. That was good enough for me so I just paid and it never showed up on my insurance. I have even changed insurance companies since this ticket and they said I had a clean record.

fricking beast of a detector bro! No way he hit you with the laser and it didn't alert you. Do you have the hidden led laser jammers as well?

In my experience, rarely do insurance companies ever do this.

It's a point system that they go by. A speeding ticket is just as bad as an at fault accident. It goes off your record in 39 months.

Sounds like a mid life crisis coming into play.

Running MVR's cost $$$.
Unless you get into a wreck or switch companies, SF will not find out.
Same advice for DWI's. Don't tell em, they won't know.

Your insurance company will likely not know about the tickets. They won't be running reports on you, because you are already a client. If you go to switch your insurance to another company, that is when it will be pulled and it would affect their rate.
Now, your premium may go up, but that is due to normal rises in insurance premiums. Tickets fall off after 5 years, and after 3 years, they don't usually affect a company's ability to write your business.
Like I tell my clients... "Just slow down!"
PS, if you are thinking about changing insurance, do it as soon as possible. Get rates and see... MVRs don't usually pull tickets until after "conviction".

Your passport should have picked up the laser but it would have been too late anyway. Once that laser hits you you're screwed. It's not like radar, the only real way to beat a laser is with jammers. Detectors and jammers are not illegal in Louisiana. That cop was full of shite.
