How much do speeding tickets affect your insurance?

I haven't had any speeding tickets in years. Suddenly I've got 2 in 2 months - one for 90 in a 70, and one last night for 89 in a 70. Paid the first one ($225), but I'm wondering if it is worth fighting the new one. My understanding is that a lawyer can usually plead it down to a non-moving violation or whatever.
I'm calling bullshite on the one last night. I was in the flow of traffic on I-10 and saw the trooper pretty far ahead, so by reflex I slowed down. My radar/laser detector did NOT go off, and that sumbitch picks up EVERYTHING and distinguishes between all bands of radar and laser. It went apeshit when the laser hit me on the first ticket, but I had just cranked up Slayer on the stereo and didn't hear it. I was quite surprised when the guy pulled me over last night, as were my wife and kid, since we saw him well in advance. When he told me "89," I asked him how he clocked me. When he said laser, I told him my laser detector did not go off. He said, "Are you telling me you have a detector, because they are illegal?" I conversed with him about that and even checked while he went back to his car. EVERY piece of info I can find online says they are perfectly legal to own and operate (even laser jammers are legal in LA). When he came back with the ticket, I asked him if he has a new magic laser that avoids detection, and he said, "There is no such thing as a laser detector - you can detect radar but not laser."
bullshite. My Passport 9500ix has a specific alarm for laser, and it detects it every time. I'm calling bullshite - I think he pulled 89 out of his arse and did not laser me.However, if it's just going to make a minimal difference (couple hundred bucks) in my insurance, I'll just pay the damn thing. Insurance is State Farm, btw.
