Has a football program ever botched a Head Coach search as badly as LSU?

...where they ended up keeping their current coach when they didn't really want to if they had a choice?

I think some boosters wanted a change, some wanted to wait till the season is done and it's a shame no one seems to have had an idea how Sexton would play LSU. LSU should've issued a statement for damage control right after the Arky game way before ESPN ran with it.

Nothing will ever top the ND search for their savior this past decade....
The Willingham/Weiss era at Notre Dame - and the over-the-top adulation and the very quick falls from grace...and ND still giving those failures huge extensions with huge buyouts.
Their coach search was so PC and so pathetic (who gives a shite that Weiss sat his fat arse in the stands to watch an ND game back in the day?) - and Willingham, oh wow, he knows Condie Rice!
Did ND even have a coaching search? I think Charlie was their first and only choice and maybe they thought they needed to higher a whale after they fired a flounder.

Take a poll and see how many didn't want Coach Miles.
He has loyal followers even though some people won't believe that

Willing ham was a hurry hire because the first search was fired for false transcript. They had a national search when Weiss was hired.

Whether or not you wanted LSU to keep Les, we can all agree the whole situation was handled atrociously
I predict sports PR firms will use this affair as a what-not-to-do training exercise

I'm ready to move on from Les Miles as a coach, but after what I saw tonight, the man does deserve some respect. If you're going to move on from him, then move on from him, but don't pull the rug from under his feet while he still has games left. Live up to your word (Alleva) and wait till after the season to evaluate the man.

This situation is also unique because Les is so damn likable. Had he once shown his temper in public, looked like he was mailing in this week's game against Texas A&M, or sent "unnamed sources" to gripe on his behalf, the entire situation would have gone very differently.
Instead, he's riding a wave of sympathy for being loyal and steady to the (perceived) end.

No one from LSU ever said anything officially.

We did here in Lincoln, not once but twice.

First of all, there was no search.
Secondly, Joe Alleva is terrible at his job. You don't pick your mouthpiece to be Joe Schad. LSU needs an LSU guy to run the department. Alleva is a business guy, which was good for getting donors to give for building all the facilities they needed (most of which Skip raised anyway) and getting the department through a recession in the black. That's not needed anymore.

Auburn and Texas have both had worse coaching replacement fiascos recently (I won't call this a search since we never did anything official).

Because Joe Schad has been reliable so far..

Maybe the athletic department did not want to address the issue until after the season was over (like they said) because they wanted the team to focus on finishing. Maybe Miles' job was never in question for the administration. Maybe the media took it way too far, way too fast, with pure speculation to back them up. If any particular organization was atrocious, it was the media for blowing tons of smoke when nothing was there.
