This movie does it. They really set the tension in it, and it shines. Very well done.

Hands down
Unfortunate that this movie became a joke afterwards, because it was brilliantly crafted and marketed. If you let yourself get absorbed into the moment, the atmosphere and chills in it are striking. That last scene! frick yeah

You can't be serious. The movie about the haunted hotel room?
Try watching the origional Evil Dead or the Hills Have Eyes.
Even The Exorcist is scarier than 1408.
You will need some coffee to get that ozone smell out of your nose. Lower it for a moment and understand that everyone else will have a different idea of what scares them. Apparently 1408, a movie about a haunted hotel room, did not scare you.
Somehow though, Evil Dead did! You can't be serious, right? RIGHT?!?!? While a cool movie, the fake arse stop animation doesn't even frighten my 7yo who is scared at Hotel Transylvania, you pussy.

it's funny that you say this:
and then say this:
the 2 comments make no sense when read together
every horror movie requires a very large suspension of disbelief and for you to "buy in" to the movie because we all know this is the truth

I agree. I believe you missed my point with the second statement. I was calling out that other poster for being a self righteous douchebag.
The flaw in your comparison of my statements though is that with one movie I was referring to suspending belief in regards to its premise (Blair Witch) while the other was it's visual properties (Evil Dead). Those are two completely different items. When the visuals are not authentic looking, it is difficult for me to feel the tension. I like ED a lot, but I have never found it scary due to this.

Why do so many people hate clowns? They're clowns for fricks sake.

Blair witch project????
Really??????
Prince of Darkness....was drunk on base at Ft. Lee, holiday weekend base was damn near deserted for Thanksgiving. When exiting the theater the slamming door echoed, the wind picked up, leaves rustling....that 1/2 mile trek was dark and FREAKING spooky.
I know major PUSSY. Lol

I watched this not long ago with my daughter. It has not stood up well to the test of time. The stuff that returns from the dead is comically fake.
Event Horizon creeps me the frick out. I can't watch it anymore.
