Baton Rouge without the state government or LSU.
There are some decent restaurants. A couple of good high school football games tonight. Not aware of anything going on this weekend though.
If you're south of I20 and East of I49 you should be OK as far as safety.

Born and raised there. It's actually a slightly better place (at least in terms of stuff to do) than when I was young. Probably due to casino money.
On the bad side, some great old neighborhoods have fallen into decay.
