This. We need to try and help these people before they commit the act. It isn't their fault and they aren't a criminal until they do something. We, as a society, do not open the door for these types to get help like we do alcoholics and people with gambling problems.
Unfortunately, with all of the psychological treatments we have for various mental disorders, pedophilia is one that outside of castration (and it's not a "cure") is really, really limited and unsuccessful. The science pretty strongly backs that legitimate sex offenders will very likely commit offenses again for this reason.

You know that throwing him in jail kind of neutralizes that threat, right?

I don't disagree. The need for sex is very strong. Without studying it we won't ever have a chance. At the very least, we can identify who these potential sex offenders are. We still can't jail them when no crime has been committed.

Better hope she's not a high school teacher.

There's a lot of research that would argue it's just a matter of time before they do commit a crime or already have but just haven't been caught.

Sexual deviance is one of the few disorders that I've ever seen the people be completely unable to change.
Everyone is a sexual deviant.
You start out at the top of a mountain, and you have pretty good gear and good boots. And you walk around exploring what you like. But you see something off in the distance where it's kind of icy, and even though you probably won't be able to make it back, maybe it's two girls trying to go downtown on you at the same time. So you go for it. And boom, it's awesome.
But you can't come back.
So now you slide just a little firther into deviant behavior.
Until you're doing things that make mikelbr stop and say... "Well that isn't very sanitary"
Now if you're smart, you don't fall into a cesspool at the bottom...some people aren't that smart.

I absolutely agree. But why is there no avenue to help these people? Like at all? Think about all of the pedophiles exist. Yet we have no way to address this issue. No way to support these people and help them long before they act.
If we really wanted to protect our children, we'd be trying to stop this shite at the source. But right now, anyone who admitted to being attracted to children who had done no wrong would be absolutely shamed. And that's a fact.

I have no doubt he was able to expand his rape scheme by using the millions he made.
These days, if I'm a national brand and interviewing spokesmen, while the candidates are in my office, I have an IT team sitting at their home and demand they give immediate access to their computers and ALL passwords needed or they can GTFO of my office.
Screw a background, I would want them checked at home first in a surprise manner. My IT guys go thru their history, cache, etc and any sites found would 've part if my decision before spending 10s of millions of $

So it is our responsibility to help those who deep down probably have no REAL desire to help themselves? I would venture to say that very few pedos actually want help. Some may say they do (especially after the fact like Fogle), but if they are fricked up enough to desire children in the first place, what makes you think that they have any remorse about these desires? Or what makes you think they have the decency to want to seek help? They are mentally ill. And this is why so many are repeat offenders. There is no rehab. There is no solution.
I feel no remorse in saying that there is no place in today's world for Fogle and people like him.

And what exactly is the source?

Are you suggesting it should not be this way?
ETA: Don't be attracted to children in the first place. And if you just absolutely cannot help yourself because youre a sick frick, then certainly do not act on it or share it publicly.

We've gotta stop this trend of blaming everything on a "mental condition". I'm sure all rapists, murderers, and child molesters have had some kind of traumatic experience that led them to be the way that they are but you have to punish those types of crimes as harshly as possible if you want family members and friends to start being serious about recognizing potential signs and seeking help for them

There will be soon.
IMO at some point to get on the net, you'll have to sign in using a fingerprint and all activity will be available to be checked with a warrant.
So basically, we can attempt to keep sickos off the net.
There's no other way to curb it other than stop their porn use.

I'm honestly not sure if environmental factors contribute to the psychological state that pedophile's have. A lot of researchers point out that pedophile's were sometimes abused themselves, or have unresolved issues from their adolescence. It wouldn't shock me that this couldn't be "fixed".
We see it in a lot of teachers as well.....almost like their partner preferences are stuck at a young age as if they are still 14 years old in their head. Maybe they are trying to return to a time when they had more attention from the opposite sex? I'm not sure.
I think normal men Jared's age are more attracted to women (regardless of their appearance) to be mentally and emotionally mature to a level that most females don't seem to reach until 23-25 years of age.

Man, I can relate. I got a stomach virus and lost 3 pounds. Suddenly I found myself hanging out in the newborn nursery area at the hospital chattin' up all the foxy babies there.
Stay fat my friends.

Well if she is a highschool teacher, she'll probably just end up fricking a few guys on the football team.

Child molesters are broken people that can't be fixed. It's that simple. I could post from now until next Thanksgiving as to why that is but it just is.

Maybe it wasn't Subway. Maybe it was all the Twinkies he ate before he discovered Subway.

You don't know that - at any rate researchers have to keep trying.
