I'm totally on board with this. He's proven that he has worth and is an important part of this team, while Tyreke is out and Jrue is limited. I'm really curious about the rotation when Jrue's limit goes up to 30 and Tyreke and Cole are a full "go". Ish has earned a part of the rotation.

When it comes to Smith, I'm a little prejudISH. The dude is playing out of his mind and beyond what he's done in previous stops. Maybe he's just a good fit for our system. Whatever the case, sign him up.

Ish has been a pleasant surprise. I never had any stupid hot takes like "ish is not a good player"-McNamara, but I didn't expect him to be the player he's been. Here's to some much needed good luck for the pels

He was on fire last night. His 20 last night felt like 40.

He isn't a good shooter.
Don't think that I'm a a total Ish hater, though. He's been very impressive lately. He can get to the basket at will, and has finished at a high pace.

Is not a hot take. He isn't a rookie, there is plenty of tape on him. I know everyone is excited about how he's been playing lately, but there is a reason that he was a minimum salary player.

was and have been more impressed with his ability to probe/press/engage the opponents perimeter D without picking up his dribble
His spatial awareness has been impressive too. He seems to know where guys will be better than any of the other guards.

so so so obvious that this offense is dependent on penetration or threat of from the ballhandler.
Yup. You can see how much a difference the spacing makes on ball reversals. Defenders are maybe a half step out of position and wings can get by them and into the defense. The Pels don't have many great off the bounce attackers, but they can catch and get into the paint quickly off good ball movement. That creates either a layup or a collapse and kick out. $$$

I believe the "hot take" is acting like there can't be a middle ground. He can both be a limited player AND a huge part in why we have played well the last four games. He could both be a guy who hurts our spacing in the half court, but finds a way to impact the game in other ways and occassionally knock down the open shot
My contention is that he is solid player when he is on the court with other good players. Early in the season, when he was playing heavy minutes with two other 10th men types in most lineups, that killed us. Put him on the floor with Jrue or Gordon, Ryno, AD, and a wing and he does his job.
But the book is far from written. He is not great, he is not terrible. He has skillsets that the team can take advantage of and he has liabilities that can hurt the team in the wrong lineups.

agree in the right line up with him at the point he does really well. At the same time he has improved almost every game and now he is getting confidence in his shot. His passing is great.
His defense is still suspect but with the right guys on the floor they can help him out.
I have been pleasantly surprised by him and Gee. Also forgot how good Ryno can be when healthy.

This is the internet, people are either the best or shite. You didn't get the memo?

You said he shouldn't play more than 10 minutes a game on a healthy team. The quality of a 10 mpg NBA player would be described as "shite"
Yea he has skill sets and liabilities like every player in the NBA. Riveting stuff there. Of course now McNamara can toot his horn when ish is good, or when he plays bad. Even though he already got called on his ish "hot take"

Distribute 144 minutes between Jrue, Tyreke, Gordon, Smith, Cole, Pondexter, Cunningham, and Gee.

Jrue: 24-To prevent his legs from falling off
Tyreke: 32
Gordon: 28
Smith: 16
Cole: 12
Pondexter:16
Cunningham:8
Gee:8
If and when we ever get fully healthy we will actually be able to distribute minutes based off of who has the hot hand and individual match-ups.

Thanks for responding, I see the cheerleader that I pointed the question to didn't respond.
I would definitely give 6 minutes from Ish to Jrue in your breakdown. I also think q-Pon deserves more than 16 minutes if fully healthy.

It's probably been mentioned, but if nothing else he gives you another bully ball guy who can attack the basket when you need that kind of decoy.
It's been suggested here that the new offense would transform with Tyreke back, so it stands to reason having a guy like Ish could make a difference.

What do you think, I was scared to answer the question or something?

frick if I know. We have never seen this whole group together at the same time.
What I do know, though, is Jrue has played only 48% of possible games since he has been here. So running him out there 30+ minutes every night is just irresponsible at this point. We can pick and chose to play him extended minutes. If we make a playoff run, great, get him out there when needed, if not, get him ready for next season.
In the same breath, Cole got serious run last year only because Holiday couldnt stay on the court. Is he a 24 mpg player like he was last season? No. He and Ish are cut from the same cloth and are really the only players mentioned above who wont be on the court together.
So you shave off some minutes off Jrue and Cole. Gee and Cunningham gets less run with a healthy Pondexter. As for Gordon, he could be dealt, we could play Holiday at the 2 more, Ish and Cole at PG more
Obviously there is some sorting out to do in the near future. But we know Ish Smith can play in this league

This is my point. They are both backup level players and should probably only get about 10 minutes per game at most. They should battle for the 3rd of duties.
