“Joe is unwaveringly loyal to Duke and to the educational values that undergird all of our programs, including athletics,” Duke President Richard H. Brodhead said following Alleva’s five-year reappointment to the position in August 2007.

Where lies his loyalty?

quote:

During Alleva’s tenure as director of athletics, every one of Duke’s 26 varsity sports and the Health, Physical Education and Recreation department have benefited from increased commitment. Simply put, the Duke Department of Athletics has never been as successful, whether in competition, the classroom, or the community.

Why would Duke let such a top notch AD go?

quote:

Alleva played football and baseball at Lehigh and was football captain in 1974. He received his bachelor’s degree in 1975 majoring in finance and served as a graduate assistant football coach for Lehigh, earning an MBA in 1976. Alleva began serving Duke in 1976 working for the vice president for business and finance.

OK, so he is a football guy and a financial guy. Should be perfect for the job, right?

quote:

The extension will keep Alleva at LSU through 2020 and does not include a raise from his $725,000 salary. With incentives, his salary could rise to 900,000.

So he makes less than 1/4 of his subordinate Miles. Interesting.

The more I read, the more I see that most on here don't know shite about what's going on, including myself. This board was on board 2 weeks ago for the most part, claiming that recruiting has been excellent, and that we had a damn good and well coached team. Now this team and coaches has been exposed, and the coaching staff is being attacked, and yes, probably with good reason now, but hind sight brings reactions from this board of posters that are clearly disillusioned because they didn't see the writing on the wall.

Like I said, I include myself in this, but I certainly trust what I read here much less now.

Alleva’s first major hire — Trent Johnson — ended up bad.
Trent Johnson was a great resume hire who had won coach of the year in 2 separate conferences.

Based on what he has accomplished at LSU, Miles deserves a better sendoff than what could be happening soon. Even if he finishes 8-3 or 7-4, Miles deserves one more season to get it right.
frick this pussy mentality. This is how Texas let Mack Brown drive them into the ground.

I don't know if the next guy will be better than Miles, but I do know that LSU is entirely too talented to be .500 in the SEC in back to back years. He has consistently underachieved with superior talent.

If Jimbo is interested then it's time to move on.

If Alleva hires Jimbo Fisher, I'll be first in line to sing his praises.

I won't hold my breath.

GG will literally go opposite of everyone else. He's the worst of the worst. He's taking this ordeal as a chance to spew shite negatively at LSU and get clicks. He is the absolute worst

i don't understand why everyone bitches about him so much. he plays devil's advocate. and he does it well. you people bitch about not having media be critical enough, and he does it. and then when they are being critical, you say stop being so tough.

What do you mean?

Miles clearly is hard-headed and won't change the offense at ALL. I-formation all the way... run, run, pass, punt.... etc.

Ignore the fact that we came out in spread formations and threw the ball on 4 of our 5 first 1st downs against Arkansas.

And now you're ready to get rid of Orgeron and Wilson because that's likely the net effect.

Do you really not know how to answer this question? It's Duke. We're LSU. Do the math.

I know for a fact that Alleva doesn't like Miles and never has.He would have fired him years ago had the opportunity presents itself. TIFWIW.

I'm guessing it had something to do with that whole Duke lacrosse scandal in 2006.

The accused were exonerated and most of the lacrosse team sued Duke. Alleva forced their coach to resign. It got way ugly. The lawsuits weren't settled until 2013.

Here's an article from a Duke paper from April 2008 after it was announced that Alleva was leaving for LSU:

LINK

quote:

While basketball continued to flourish under Alleva, Duke Football floundered. Alleva hired two coaches-Carl Franks and Ted Roof-who were unable to turn the program around. Alleva, who will inherit one of the nation's most prominent football powerhouses at LSU, said his mishandling of the football program was one of his biggest disappointments at Duke but hopes that will change with his December hiring of former Tennessee offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe.

"I'm hopeful that one of my best legacies at Duke will be the hiring of Coach Cutcliffe," Alleva said.

Despite his miscues, Alleva leaves the athletic department in as good, if not better, shape than he received it. And although Alleva might not be regarded as highly as his predecessor, it's clear that a high bar has been set for his successor.

Cutcliffe got Duke to be a winner in his 6th season.
Neither Ted Roof or Carl Franks won more than 3 games in any year.
Granted, it's Duke football. Pretty much Vandy but worse.

I mean when team is winning all is wonderful, even though, cupcakes were scoring 20 per game on our D. When team is winning our OL is the best in the country, yes I read it here over and over, am I pointing you out personally? No, but it was WIDE spread, it carried over to the SEC board, where thread after thread claimed LSU had the best team in the SEC, possibly the Country, as it turns out, this team is not very good, that's what I mean.

Well you originally responded to me, and I have a long reputation on this site of being critical of Les Miles. Doesn't make me right, but to say that I was singing his praises two weeks ago would not be accurate.
