The "Why would (insert coach) want to come here" Argument

It's a load of crap. First of all lots of people say, "Why Would Jimbo want to make a lateral move to LSU?".
First of all it's not a lateral move. LSU is one of the top 2-3 programs in the SEC. Facilities, Recruiting Base, Fan support, Money, Location...all better than FSU. FSU sucked before Bowden, sucked at the end of Bowden, and Jimbo got them back on track. In addition they have to compete with Florida for recruits in addition to other schools raiding the state.
Secondly, these coaches like a challenge. "Having it Made" somewhere isn't a reason they stay. I guarantee you Jimbo wanted to be the HC at LSU when they hired Miles. He knows exactly what kind of success, prestige, and notoriety comes with winning and winning big at LSU. You'll be playing prime time on ESPN most of the time, or on CBS. Not the ACC back seat time slots at 12 noon on ESPN and ESPN2.
If the LSU coaching job opens up they'll be fighting over it. This is a BETTER job than Texas, TN, Nebraska, Florida(facilities suck), Miami. In fact LSU and Alabama are probably the 2 best jobs in the country. Enough with the "who will we hire better" junk. LSU will get a good coach if it opens up. PERIOD.

LSU and UF are equal IMO until you take into account recruiting. LSU has a significant advantage.

I'm sure coaches will flock to LSU after y'all fire a coach with a 10-2 record. Y'all need to pump the breaks and evaluate after the season.

LSU is still a really cool school to play football at, despite what you read on the Rant, even if production wise skill position players are better off going elsewhere.

Everyone has nice facilities these days. Other sec teams pack their stadium, and Louisiana is behind the states of Texas, Florida and Georgia as far as amount of talent in state.

GREAT post....
pumpers will not be happy, which is odd considering how much they say they love LSU.

I think the bigger picture people are forgetting here is that USC and Miami are also going to be hiring. As well as a bunch of mid level schools (missouri, south carlonia, maryland)
Texas and Texas A&M both will be in the market for a OC as well.
Competing for a coach against that is not a situation I wan't Joe Alleva to handle.

LSU is not a better job than Texas or Florida. That is simply wrong under any objective standard. LSU is a great job, but those are probably the two best jobs in the country.

I agree totally with the OP. Soooo many coaches out there prob drooling over wanting to coach this talent here. Louisiana is a hot bed of talent and it isnt slowing down, and who do we have to recruit against here? Saban may come grab a few guys here and there but for the most part LSU has their pick of players in Louisiana and a pretty good part of texas

Keep believing this Jeff. Ignorance is bliss

It depends on the money, it ALWAYS depends on the money. All these other issues are secondary for the most part.

I guarantee you are correct.

Six face-to-face interviews were conducted from Dec. 26-30: then-LSU assistants Bobby Williams and Jimbo Fisher; Nutt, who had just finished his seventh season at Arkansas; former Texas A&M coach R.C. Slocum; Miles; and then-Louisville coach Bobby Petrino.

Also interesting from that article:
quote:
Steve Spurrier and Urban Meyer were Bertman’s top choices, he admits, but they were taken.
Spurrier had just returned to the college game at South Carolina, and Meyer had recently been hired at Florida. LSU was starting its search late.
“Nick put us in a tough spot,” Weems said.
If LSU got into the mix before South Carolina, “We could have had Spurrier,” one committee member said.
