A Message to Johnny Jones

Great first win, Johnny! You have a talented team that can go a long way this year!
However I was disturbed by the Tigers play late in the game. The Tigers gave up a 34-11 run to an inferior team once the winner of the game was no longer in question. Virtually the same thing happened late in the exhibition game against SW Baptist.
These early season games are all about developing stamina, teamwork, and focus. LSU lost all those in the closing minutes, yet I didn't see you calling timeouts and getting the team to concentrate and play hard to the end. McNeese had much more spunk and energy, while the Tigers looked confused and lethargic. This kind of play can become a habit if it is not corrected.
LSU will be good this year. However unless they keep focus for 40 minutes they won't be championship contenders. Against the really good teams in the SEC, it will be necessary to keep up their focus and play hard no matter how far they are ahead.
You don't see Duke, NC, or Kentucky playing like that late. Their head coaches won't tolerate it!
Otherwise, congratulations, and let's have a season to remember!

We showed glimpses of what we can and should be Max. The last 3 mins of the first half and first 6-7 minutes of the second half we outscored them 27-0.
In the other 30 minutes of the game a pretty bad McNeese team outscored us 70-54.
Maybe they were bored, whatever...need to nip that shite in the bud.

I caught the game on the radio with about 7 minutes left and didn't recognize very many names...could it be he was giving his bench some experience? Doesn't mean we have a focus problem...

That's exactly what happened. LSU fans gonna LSU fan though.

No. He didn't really empty the bench until the 2 minute mark. They just flat out put it in cruise control for the last 12 minutes. OP is correct.

That's not what happened at all.

LSU 2rheMax was right on with his assessment. We did not clear the bench to the 2:30 mark. We lost a number of games late last year. Coach JJ has to assure their in "fire in their belly" for 40 mins of intensity. Oh yea...and free throws...50%...ughhh!
But beyond those 2 concerns, I absolutely marveled how well they looked as a team. Simmons is every bit as good as advertised and a joy to watch in all facets of his game.

I mean the lineup for the last 2:30 minutes was JP Sampson Shortess edlestone Darcy/Bridge. It's gonna be okay
Free throws idk what to tell ya, we suck

The defense looked pathetic. Every time they went to zone they just sat back and gave up easy shots. You can't do that against a team that can shoot outside.

Second half of Kentucky-Albany was 40-38. Second half of Duke-Siena was 48-47.
Free throws is a good gripe.

Offensive flow stopped when Benny went out with leg cramps.
Tried to let him sit the rest of the game. He came back TQ went out.
No 25. No TQ. Team will struggle.

Not possible, their coaches would never allow that.

That lineup is arguably more talented than McNeese's starters.

Kentucky won by 13, only outscoring their opponent by 2 in the second half.

Missing 3 of the top 8 players imo, not a big deal. More encouraged by the big run

Ever think they wanted mcneeae to prove they could make the outside shots? Makes no senae tk extend a zone and let them get in.middle of your zone when they cant beat you from outside.
And the man defense was fun to watch. The crowd missed multiple opportunities to get behind the team mid shot clock after some really good on ball defending, help defending, and rotation. Ive seen lsu struggle with help side defense and hedging when should be a let through for years and last night i was pumped watching our guys get it.
Hopefully the crowd can learn to pick up on that and give them some encouagment for their efforts

It was 3 minutes left and we had a 19 point lead when we emptied our bench. At about 13 min kinda skipped off the court which appeared to be a cramp or a stinger and jones tried not to play him the rest of the way but when the 30 point lead went to 20 points he went back in. Also, refs were awful the last five minutes. They could mug us no call we breath on them they called it. Ben got an offensive foul and defender was on the side of him ball side. How is it even possible
