Have you tried the Dr. Scholl's active series? Questions for OT runners

I changed out the soles in my running shoes to help fix my running form, since I land on my heels and my knees and shins hurt like shite. when I first tried them out at the gym, they shin and knee pain were gone but my feet pain tripled. I could only run half of what I normally do. I tried breaking them in by walking in them as much as I can, but I still find the same problem when I hit the treadmill later that night.
My question: is the pain just because I have to break them in further?
Is it because my feet are trying to adjust to the running form?
The soles suck?
I tried to find Google answers, but can't find anyone with the same problem that can provide a decent answer. TIA!

Do yourself a favor. Find a shoe store in your area that caters to runners. The staff will be knowledgable in helping you find the correct shoe. If your within 2 hours of NOLA, I suggest Louisiana Running Company on Canal. They will fit you and video analyze your gait.
Additionally, when you find the right pair order as many of them as you can afford. I have a 4 pair backlog of asics kayano. Change your shoes at least every 300 miles. I change mine the first of every quarter

I did the little foot machine thing at Target where i took off my shoes, went through all of the questions, etc. It told me to get a specific sole type that they offered and I didn't realize that the damn things cost like $80 bucks. I said hell no on that

I'll tell you what the doc and PT both told me: MANY MANY MANY issues like foot and knee issues for runners start at the HIPS. PT tested my hip strength and it was zero. ZERO. Did the few simple exercises he gave me and I have no more issues.

Thanks for all of the answers.
I live in the nashville area, but I will definitely find one today. I'm not a very serious runner just yet, but I have been wanting to make it more regular. The foot pain was a big roadblock.

I didn't know hips could cause the problems. It might be my hips; I didn't realize how inflexible my hips were until just now.

Could you share some of those exercises to strengthen hips?

So simple it's ridiculous.
The two that he gave me were side lying leg raises 3 sets of 10 3 times a week and clamshells 3 sets of 10 3 times a week.
Make side to keep your legs stacked and don't let yourself roll to the back. I have to keep my hands on my hip of the side facing up to keep it from rolling. Seriously made a huge difference.
I'm a runner ... Assumed my hips were good. Nope. I quit doing them as I felt better and guess what? Things started hurting again. Went back to that with no other adjustments and life is good.
(Disclaimer I also had meniscus surgery but once that was cleared up I still had issues ... These exercises saved my running.)

I have been running for about 4 months and started out with some knee pain. Got fitted in the proper shoe and it is a breeze now. I couldn't imagine a new for inserts. You just need some good shoes. What are you running in and what kind of mileage per week?

I am a podiatrist.
Do not waste your money on Dr. Scholls.
If you are going to buy regular otc orthotics there are much better brands like Spenco, Superfeet, or power steps.
Best idea is to either see a Dr for your pain, or as suggested above find a quality shoe store and left someone knowledgeable evaluate you and find you the right shoes/orthotics.

Forgot to add, even with the right orthotics there is a break in period so to speak. You should slowly work your way into wearing them continously.
Going full time into new/different inserts can lead to other problems like plantar fasciitis.

Thanks everyone for all of the answers. These pair of inserts were only 15$ so I figured I could try it. I've tried the work inserts before and they actually worked very well for me.
I will go with everyone's suggestion to find a shoe fitter. I have been doing 3-5 miles on Monday and Weds. And 1-2 miles on Tuesday-Thursday. I'm focusing on speed/endurance more than distance at the moment. I only run on a treadmill or a track, but I track my data on a fitbit.

Try to be more of a forefoot striker. In other words, run more on your toes rather than letting your heel hit the ground first.
I'm not sure how you can train yourself to do that, if you don't already run that way.
Oh, and get a simple Garmin GPS watch.

Never even thought on going to a podiatrist for foot pain related to walking/running. Thanks for the suggestion. I have very wide feet... I have non-stop foot pain.
