I used to hunt around there as a kid with family and everyone in the club was from south LA. It would be cool to reconnect but I know that would be difficult.

Do any OB members hunt around there or know if leases prices are reasonable around there? That area was some of the best hunting I have been around as far as number of deer. (I know there is better I just haven't hunted it) I heard it has gotten a little pricey to hunt around there but of course I haven't been there in 15 years.

Peak rut usually around the end of the year....For adams county anyway. Figure it should be about the same slightly south.

I'm just north of Woodville, and our rut has been running around Christmas time.

Very hit or miss in that area from my experience.

literally cheaper to buy land out there than to lease it.
we're right on the outskirts of magnolia... grandparents bought land, then granny got close to a deer and refuses to let us hunt her "pets"

My parents bought some land in Amite County back in 07. After Katrina the prices nearly doubled overnight and have remained high. Our place is in Summit, and the hunting isn't bad. Not great, but its rare to go 2-3 days in a row without seeing something. Our rut is usually the first week of January.

I used to be in a club in Woodville, and that is some great deer country. Lots of steep ridges and bottoms to see deer a long way off. In Summit we have rolling hills and your field of vision is very limited in the woods.

I live in Amite county about 11 miles north of Liberty. The deer hunting is pretty good but not great. We have ALOT of deer but tons of does and small bucks. I see a decent rack occasionally but not like you would along the Ms river. We hunted behind our house Tuesday and saw 8 between me and my wife. The hogs are growing in numbers in a lot of areas along the river. Where are you looking? The rut has been around New Years from what I can tell in my area.

Hunted Gloster for about 25 years and we had the best success between Jan 1 and Jan 10.

I hunt near on Willie Neyland rd right on the Buffalo river and from what I seen the rut did not have a specific time frame. Dec 11 I saw a buck pushing a doe and on Jan 5th I saw another buck pushing a doe. Granted the one I saw on Jan 5th was much bigger than one on Dec 11th and I would have shot had he presented one. Great area.

Agreed. I bought 33 acres in southern Amite CO last Spring right on the state line. I have 10 yr old pines with a hardwood bottom and a creek on my place. It made more sense to me to buy a smaller place than lease 100-200 acres for the price of my note. I paid 2900 per acre.

I used to hunt off meadville rd north of Liberty near the amite river.

My dad and I have been looking for land to buy for a few years in this general area and the closer we get to the ms river the more the price per a acre goes up. We just haven't found the exact place yet. We are picky!

We lease land in Arkansas now but its too far and weekend trips get pretty tiresome. Would love to get closer to down here.

I looked at probably 10 properties before I pulled the trigger. I found several nice tracks but the surrounding neighbors were questionable. If you aren't living on your land your neighbors are pretty important. Once place I looked at the guy in the house next to the property was playing Liberace at 120db outside. I thought about being in my deer stand and hearing that shite and didn't even go past the front gate.

grandparents place in magnolia has good neighbors, I went spend the night and they came knocking on the camper because they didn't recognize the truck
the cops usually stop over and hang out and drink as well.

found an old stand that someone used in the past in an oak overlooking the small creek they have, sat in it twice then granny said no more killing her pets
