How LSU makes the CFB Playoff (Very Real Scenarios)
Posted on 11/11/15 at 2:41 pm
Posted on 11/11/15 at 2:41 pm
Current CFB Rankings Teams in BOLD are Locks for CFP Top 4
1. Clemson
2. Alabama
3. Ohio State
4. Notre Dame
5. Iowa
6. Baylor
7. Stanford
8. Oklahoma State
9. LSU
10. Utah
How does LSU get in?
#2 - Alabama - @ 17 Mississippi State, vs. Charleston Southern, @ Auburn
Alabama's weakness is their Pass Defense (25th) which gives up 189.6 ypg. Ole Miss beat them by throwing 33 times for 341 yards and 3 scores. Yes, mistakes also aided in their win but doesn't that happen to everyone?
Mississippi State has 2 losses (LSU and Texas A&M). Dak Prescott has a TD/INT ratio of 18-1 and has thrown for 2,351 yards (300+ each of the past 3 games) while also being able to run. (418 yards, 7 TDs)
And anything can happen in Aub-Ala games, this one just so happens to be at Auburn.
#3 - Ohio State - @ Illinois, vs. 13 Michigan State, @ 14 Michigan
Ohio State struggled against Northern Illinois (20-13), Indiana (34-27), Minnesota (28-14). They cannot beat the Spartans and the Wolverines Defense's in consecutive weeks, it will not happen. They might lose both but we will settle for one.
#4 - Notre Dame - vs. Wake Forest, vs. Boston College, @ 7 Stanford
They lost to Clemson by 2 after failing to score on a game tying 2pt conversion and the committee just loves to hear about them playing without all these injured starters including their QB, RB, and TE. Notre Dame might lose to Stanford but it will only help LSU if Alabama loses another game.
#5 - Iowa - vs. Minnesota, vs. Purdue, @ Nebraska
Assuming they win out, Iowa could make things very interesting as they just do not seem to be that great to be that high. Regardless, they will have to play OSU, MSU, or Mich and they will not win that game so forget about them.
#6 - Baylor - vs. 12 Oklahoma, @ 8 Oklahoma St., @ 15 TCU, vs. Texas
If they win all those games, then they will have knocked out the 8th spot and LSU will move up once again. But they will more than likely lose two of the next three. They lose to OU, upset State, and lose to TCU. (2 birds, one stone)
#7 - Stanford - vs. Oregon, vs. Cal, vs. 4 Notre Dame
Oregon beats them this weekend without a doubt and Cal upsets them the following week forcing them out of the top ten before they get Notre Dame to end the year. The likelihood of Stanford over Notre Dame is really high.
#8 - Oklahoma State - @ Iowa St, vs. 6 Baylor, vs. 12 Oklahoma
See Baylor above. They will play each other and start knocking themselves out of contention anyways.
#9 - LSU - They have to win out.
All of the above scenarios are not far fetched are even unreal, they are legit scenarios.
Ohio State, Iowa, Baylor, Stanford, and Oklahoma State can all lose 1-2 games before it is said and done. Notre Dame might drop one too. That leaves LSU has the highest ranking 1 loss team thanks to good timing.
CFB Playoff Final Four
1. Clemson
2. Notre Dame
3. LSU
4. TBD
1. Clemson
2. Alabama
3. Ohio State
4. Notre Dame
5. Iowa
6. Baylor
7. Stanford
8. Oklahoma State
9. LSU
10. Utah

I think Powerman's thread was better.

Here's the flaw in your logic. If Michigan State, Oklahoma, or TCU pulls off one of these upsets and emerges as a 1-loss conference champion, I can almost guarantee they will jump LSU in the standings.

No SEC championship, no playoffs.

This is absolutely true. Without a doubt.

The only team in the recent past and forever future that has/will get a Mulligan is Alabama.

There is plenty to doubt here. Stanford is favored by 10.

All 3 of those games were with jones at QB. Barrett has played 3 complete halves, and OSU has been a totally different team in those halves. Can they do it against good teams, we will see, but there is just a different feel with Barrett
Sparty's defense isn't as good as years past, but Michigan is for real

not necessarily
if FSU beat UF and then UF beats Bama and a bunch of other teams lose LSU could get into the playoffs as a 1 loss non SEC champion
its not likely, but it could happen

The SEC would have a better shot at being shut out of the playoffs than LSU making it in that scenario.
Ohio St.
Clemson
Big 12
Stanford/ND

I said a bunch of the other teams had to lose...like all the Big 12, tOSU, etc

If this happens with Bama losing one more game and lsu wins out that means they will play in the sec championship game

Don't have to win conference to get in.
Just need two of the power 5 conferences to have 2 loss champion.

We won't pass the eye test in any senario because we were dominated. We dropped to 9 which shows what the committee thought. Squeaking by Arky and ole miss will not be enough. Hope I am wrong.

I agree, we need some convincing wins going forward.
