If we're fortunate enough to have a playoff rematch with Bama - O-line shuffle?

That's the matchup that killed us in that game as was obvious to anyone.

Any chance that things might get shuffled around a bit in the event of a rematch?

Clapp at center
Pocic at RT
Alexander at RG
Best available guard to fill the left guard spot

If we're losing the individual matchups some shuffling around might do us good. That would have obviously been pretty tough to pull off in game though.

Thoughts?

Still need to win individual matchups

Can't allow that much penetration

He could still play one of the guard positions

i honestly don't know if any of that will work. it was painfully obvious sat night that whatever they threw at the OL was going to work, and work extremely well.

Sure

But there are an number of different things the coaches could try

Pocic at LT and move Hawkins back to RT is just one of them

Not sure if Boutte has made any strides from earlier in the year. Trotting the same starting 5 out there will likely yield a similar result. There might be a way to shuffle things around and get some better individual matchups.

Boutte if we are really stuck on running the ball. He will punish his guy no matter who it is. He's not intimidated. And move Alexander back in at guard just for them.

Tackle Guard Center Guard Tackle
Hawkins Alexander Pocic Boutte Teuhema
305lbs 329lbs 309lbs 342lbs 327lbs

Brute strength in the middle and decent tackles on the outside. You guys know we're only playing one way. Bring it, baby!!

Yes, the OL just got decimated, no one saw that coming including Bama fans.

This is our best chance against "that" defense!

No. Spread them out and throw more passes that involve combo routes with TEs and RBs over the middle or outside or both....

Teach them better pass blocking technique. Maybe keep another back in to help block blitzers.

Ole Miss, aTm, Oklahoma, OSU etc, show you how to score on them. Each of the teams above put up 40+ points on them the past several years.

The ONLY way LSU would beat a focused Bama team this year is LSU PASSES the ball and runs read option plays (and they would have to hope that Bama turns the ball over or we score on special teams).

They are exponentially better than us when they are focused.

While we got abused at the OL, I think this game could have been vastly different with one play....

...had the first play of the second half worked instead of a pick, it's a different ball game.

Shotgun/pistol, mis-direction, short passes to the flat and to RB's would have made it a different game.

Yes, I put a good bit of the loss on the coaches.

But again, you still can't get dominated in in individual match ups up front.

We won't if they put this line-up in.

Tackle Guard Center Guard Tackle
Hawkins Alexander Pocic Boutte Teuhema
305lbs 329lbs 309lbs 342lbs 327lbs

Clapp is 305 and was going up against 325 lbs. The other two are 315 lbs. We need bigger/stronger guys in the middle to handle that.

Playcalling shuffle. You cant run into a brick wall like that. At some point you should have a Plan B on how to get over or around that wall. Saban has Plan B..C..D.. and E. Les has to wise up and rotating linemen wont matter if its still LF--Right...Left..Center.

In a rematch we should do everything opposite from last week. Air it out, spread Wr sets, screen passes to Fournette, kick it out of the endzone, run out of spread sets, throw to the TE, Speed sweeps, designed QB runs, open things up and then unleash Fournette.

But no. We'd do the exact same thing that didnt work last week, run Fournette into a brick wall over and over again.

It absolutely matters if the matchups are better.

If we start getting 3 or 4 yards on first down instead of stuffed at the line it makes a big difference.
