You mean Melvyns
Live in Ruston and commute? That may be the stupidest thing I've read on here. And he's coming from MS. Can't be worse
And sorry op. But there's no cool walking distance hangout area

Get you a confederate flag and put it on your vehicle so you can fit in.

That's incorrect.

Cotton and Nonna in Mecca are probably two of the best restaurants in the tri-state area.
Cormier's is great for boiled seafood.
You like yardbird?

My wife Mary, young son Noah and I are all extraordinarily happy living here in Monroe, where we attend Baptist Church four times a week and watch the weekly 12-year old football contest with bated-breath. On the occasional extra-special weekend evening, after the paycheck has arrived, we'll go to the Pecanland Mall Dr. Olive Garden and order unlimited salad and bread sticks for a cool $5.99.

West Monroe sucks. Look for a place in the Garden District of Monroe. Grocery shop at Brookshires on N 18th Street- that's where the "nice people" shop
This is a reply that will quickly reveal that the Monroe crowd is jealous of West Monroe. Likewise, some in West Monroe are jealous of Monroe.
South of I-20 on either side of the river is not good. Monroe garden district and the area by Brookshires is not great either (lived there for 7 years before it got bad).
Night life is probably not very good, but I'm too far removed from that to offer an opinion.
Why not ask your brother?

Good Eats?
Depends on what you want.
Seafood: Cypress Inn, Riverfront, and Trappes are good
Burgers and such: Field house is my personal favorite but there's quite a few options.
Upscale: I'm not sure as much about this since I'm a broke student athlete. Supposedly cottons is good

Living quarters?
Garden District is nice. Also a few neighborhoods around west Monroe/Sterlington
quote:South Monroe: like the plague
What areas to avoid? What areas to fancy?
Area around ULM also isn't very desirable. Campus itself is great but once you get off it it gets kindve sketchy.

there is a small university here where the women outnumber the men about 2.5 to 1. Enjoy

I stay out of West Monroe as that's redneck country plus if you work in Monroe the drive to and from work is ridiculous.
LOL
That's a tough 20 minutes. You must have never lived in any large city before.

I'm out the loop on the young kids bars
Whatever bar ends up opening up where bar 3 used to be will be the hot spot in a few months I'm sure

Do people really just relocate without any research before they accept?

True, lived outside NO and OKC, but not in my adult working life.
That said I'd imagine the commute in the morning for many gets up to 30 min or more, so that's more than an hour of every day spent just going to work. I'll pass on that.

West Monroe towards Calhoun is growing. Calhoun is mainly country but it's not much of a drive towards West Monroe or Ruston. People talkin shite about WM don't know what they talking about. My dad sells land and most of the people he sells land too are the people that are trying to escape Monroe.

Dude asked a legit question and gets mostly BS answers.
I moved to a smallish town like monroe when I was 28. Figured I had to make my own entertainment. Joined a running club, hung out at cycling shop till I found people to ride with. Organized weekly rides followed by parties. Bought a boat and had no trouble finding friends to ski with. Plenty of LSU àlums in the area who like to have fun.
