Wonder what the "we're gonna run out of oil" crowd thinks of all these new finds?
There is still a finite amount of oil on the planet. We are going to eventually run out of oil. Do you really think a new oil discovery means that we now have an infinite amount of the resource? It is undebatably except by nuts that oil found in the ground is an unrenewable resource.
Anyway, it will be interesting to see how this new discovery affects the dynamics of the region.

Do they sell jacked up F-250s in Israel?
Posted on 10/8/15 at 12:47 pm to Darth_Vader
Israel the newest member of OPEC, wouldn't that be a kick in the nuts for the other members...

I am not sure. I've never been there. My hybrid does have an Oil Field Trash sticker on the back glass though.

Just what the world needs.....more oil

quote:agreed..but hopefully in 25-50 yrs. we will have successfully created a synthetic petroleum substitute.but until then, oil must be used and the rainbow juice and unicorn fart crowd can suck it.

Cool. They seized that from Syria in 67' in the Six Days War.
Posted on 10/8/15 at 1:08 pm to tgrbaitn08
They were all excited about the oil, but then they discovered it wasn't kosher.
Posted on 10/8/15 at 1:08 pm to Peazey
Yeah even if this is a 100 billion barrel reserve, at the worlds current consumption rate it provides less than 3 years of oil and this assumes that every drop is recoverable. I doubt it is that large since it would rival the largest field in the world and would have likely been discovered already. So I don't see how anyone can say we will never run out.

Awesome. Isreal pumps the oil and sells it to us and we pull our troops out of the rest of the middle east.

Israel will join OPEC and all the Semitic cousins will gang up on the rest of the world.

People act like Isreal couldn't destroy any opposition. They have just as bad arse a military and no restrictions on SJW to tell them not to use it.
They have a strong military
Not near just as badass. And they should have a strong one with all of the funding and help we've sent their way

Wish they would give some more information on the porosity and permeability.
This. I'm thinking it must be tight oil.

I'm not an O&G engineer, but with it being so close to Syria, couldn't Syria and Russia simply tap the reserve from within Syria and steal oil from the Jews?
Probably not. The "I drink your milkshake" stuff only goes so far.
The announcement describes thickness. It says nothing about permeability and porosity.
In perspective, that is akin to me telling you that a business has huge revenues. Unless you know other things -- like its cost of production and debt -- you know very little about its value.

I learn so much from the OT

It's a little odd that the announcement came from a "geologist working with the company." Either he went off the reservation and violated an NDA, or somebody is leaking this information. My bet is on the latter.

No telling what kind of crazy espionage goes on with the O&G game over there. I bet there is crazy shite that none of us will ever know.
