The Coryell offense attacked vertically through seams. The Coryell offense had lower ucompletion percentages

The passing game was based on timing and rhythm, and coaching the system required a lot of repetition.

The Coryell offense is a combination of deep and mid range passing and power running.

] Throwing a deep pass was the first option on each play.[10]

Overall the goal of the Coryell offense is to have at least two downfield, fast wide receivers who adjust to the deep pass very well, combined with a sturdy pocket quarterback

The Coryell offense required more talented players, a passer who could get the ball there, and men who can really run—a lot of them," said Walsh.

Look at the players he had.

He also never made it to a Super Bowl and couldn't get past the top defenses or bad weather

It sounds great and like a sure fit on paper but the WRs aren't up to par IMO. The offense needs to isolate DBs and let Brandon pick apart the defense by choosing a WR before the play. I think the what would take this offense to the next level is using the TEs consistently and letting them become primary receivers.

It really is a head scratcher that we came out looking just incredible at Miss St and while LF is still LF the passing game has regressed.

The I-Formation is not a facet of the "Air Coryell" offense. I think you've posted this before. The offense didnt change at all when Cam Cameron came in.

We still weren't sure why the QB's were so incompetent, we assumed it was just an anomaly with Jefferson/Lee, and Mett gave us hope it was, but again, it has continued.

Please Read

This is not the "Air Coryell" offense. Look at the formations.

The routes may be Coryell"ish" but the offensive philosophy is probably not top to bottom. The only issue I really have right now is that we are not running more play action with Harris rolling out of the pocket. The kid provides us with a lot of flexibility but we don't seem to use it as often as we should.

Regardless of whether Air Coryell is the term for the type of passing game we run or not, it's long past time our coaches come to grips with the reality that it doesn't work and isn't going to work with our personnel.

Our route trees are terrible and our QB is being hamstrung by our OC and/or HC, who could make Tom Brady look awful.

You can never say for sure unless you're in the film room, but I'd bet a lot of money that we are reading deep to short. (this also explains why Jennings kept heaving it deep to Dural last year). That's not going to change at this point in the season; it's not like you can just flip a switch and suddenly become a Bill Walsh style short passing team. You just have to hope that something clicks and the deep passes start connecting.

One of the problems is that Miles is so risk averse, he sees our passes as potential punts (if intercepted). That's why over 1/2 of our throws are 40-50 yard fly patterns.

How many passing TD's have been called back due to penalty?

Same question on other long completions.

When we had Xavier Carter and Bennie Brazell, true OLYMPIC athletic speed, they should have rotated them in running the fly pattern EVERY down. Wouldn't even have needed to throw to them but once a quarter or so, just to respect it. Talk about wear out the DB's. The track coach would have appreciated the extra reps as well.

We threw deep in the middle because the safeties were supporting the run. We do this for 2 reasons, to take advantage of what the defense gives us and to make the safeties stay back.

If we had Dwayne Bowe those passes would have been really big gains, but unfortunately we don't have Bowe.

If I'm reading into this, wouldn't this be extremely hard to implement at a college level then? You have QB's and WR's that are are around for 3 yrs (hopefully 4). And they generally only start regularly in 2 of those years.
