Tell them you got a DUI and you need to slow your roll for a while

just a no.....

don't explain anything.

give me a mineral water or plain water

don't explain

if you feel the need to explain...tell them, if you wanted a drink, you'd accept one. I'm not gonna drink to socialize, I don't need it. then just change the subject

a close friend of mind would bug me, but not too bad, but bug me none the less.
it started out for me, to insure I'd keep my DL and never get a dui.

I never drink visiting anyone...EVER. not gonna do it. period. but I don't make a big deal about it, no announcement etc...just, gimme a ginger ale or something, water

good luck bro....

I think "taking a break" sounds less drastic or weird, also some mention of doing it for some physical fitness purpose sounds cool.

Just tell them! Geez.... They'll call you a pussy for the first couple months then get over it. No biggy

I've got To be in Drinking mood. Dozens of times I've turned down a beer and I got shite for it. Doesn't bother me a bit. Usually the arse homes pressuring you are the ones who really have a problem.

I don't think it's that big of a deal to come out of the closet. It's 2015. Being a homo doesn't have the same stigma.

Just don't drink. Are they only hanging out with you because you drink? There are plenty of nights I go out with friends and just drink water or coke or something. No one cares.

I have a good friend that quit drinking about a year ago.

We were at the deer camp one weekend and I offered him a beer and he told me he quit drinking. I asked why, and he said it had started affecting his life too much.

We left it at that, and I respect him a lot for manning up and being honest.

Unless you feel they'll be trying to get you to drink when you're around them, you shouldn't worry about how they feel about it. It's a decision you are making for yourself, not them.

When i told friends that knew me a long time that i quit drinking, the usual response was something along the lines of "good, that is probably for the better"

Reaffirms how out of control i was
