re: Is there any way a "penalty limit" could be successfully implemented in the NFL?

The automatic first down penalties have got to change. I hate when a team is 3 and 25 throws an incomplete pass, but some lineman gets called for hands to the face and it's first down again.

The only way to solve this is to change the rules drastically. When there are so many penalties, it's either because the players suck, the refs suck, or the rules suck. And these are the best players and officials (like 'em or not), so it isn't them. Clearly the rules are the problem. The game will collapse on itself if it isn't simplified in some way.

I have a hard time enjoying a big play while it occurs knowing that a flag is imminent.

Any time I see a defensive player chasing a QB I just assume he's going to get a roughing the passer call. It's getting ridiculous.

You could get to the maximum and just start tackling receivers at the snap
I did that on NFL Blitz all the time and never got a flag

There is a penalty on every play.

what you meant to say is: we can all see that - as big Mike of Mike and Mike always says: "you can call a penalty on every play if you look closely at the line play".
There are not literally flags thrown on every play.

No, but there is a penalty that could be called on every play if they wanted to throw it. That was my point. Thanks.

No, but it is getting pretty close. Like a previous poster said, it is getting to a point where I cannot enjoy a good play. A great catch happens, I wait for the flag for pushing off. A great PBU happens, I wait for a PI flag. QB gets flushed out of the pocket, late hit flag pending. great run, here comes a flag for holding. Automatic flag on any punting play.
There is no flow to the game anymore.

As all 45 players from each team trot out onto the field. Even the kickers are back toward the endzones to make sure there isn't a pick six or fumble recovery for a TD.
Seeing as there are no long illegal formation penalities, wide receivers just randomly spread out in the field in anticipation of the snap. May God have mercy on their souls.
