The base rates aren't even comparable as way more selfies are taken than there are shark attacks. They are comparing an event with low incidence to one with high incidence, which is stupid.

I expect at least as many people venture into the ocean as take selfies, if not more.

While venturing into the ocean is necessary for a shark attack to occur (unless sharknado), it does not meet the criteria of being sufficient for a shark attack. Thus your premise is false.
