When I visited New York last year, I could not bring myself to go down there. I walked pretty close while exploring, but tried to keep my attention away from that direction. It still haunts me just watching it on television. Being there would get me more emotional than I would have wanted to be on vacation. I can't imagine the people who were actually there and living with that memory. And that is obviously all secondary to those who actually went through that literal hell.
Happy Friday!

It was very disturbing. From doing business in the towers, to staying at the Mariott before at the base of the towers. To seeing it on TV. To watching the bombs hit Afghanistan. And then the wars that never ended.
And then Katrina hit.
Man the world has changed.

I go to WTC every day to catch the PATH. However, I still can't bring myself to go to the museum.

Have seen this video as well.
If you didn't know what it was you would miss it. It's one of the closest footage to ground zero from a professional. He added a YouTube bubble saying what the faint little beeping was.
So eerie.

Was just in NYC over Labor Day weekend. We went to the memorial and it is mind blowing. The museum is unreal. It's underground at the base of the two towers. Security is insane as it should be. You can take the tour free via their app. Just search 9/11 museum in the App Store

google "9/11 jumpers"
Did that a few years ago, let's just say those images aren't leaving my brain anytime soon.

I'm just glad this isn't another conspiracy theorist thread.
The title had me fooled.

I'm sure the museum is a great tribute and is amazing. But I'll never go. I can do things like the Holocaust Museum. It was so long ago before I was born, I can't really fully wrap my mind around it. And still it is hard to see the terror those people were put through. With 9/11, I fully remember the events and know the impact it had at that time. I remember watching the people falling on the news live as it was happening. I just don't think I can handle it. I'm not good with that stuff. I remember going to the OKC bombing site a year or so after it happened when it was just a fence around it with flowers and letters plastered everywhere. It was just unbelievably sad. That kind of stuff just cuts pretty deep for me I guess.

I think everyone should see it. My wife was asking why I watch it. It's our duty to see it and feel a minute, tiny little bit of what they did. Even that 1/1,000,000 of a fraction of their torment brings tears to my eyes and nauseates me. But it confirms for me and whoever watches it the horrors that went on that day. The media suppression is to allow "healing". frick healing. Ten years from now they'll be saying it never happened and it's all CGI. Just like holocaust deniers. I think it should be a old festering wound we pick at to remind why we cannot give an inch to these motherfrickers. Why we need to handle them in the manner they deserve. frick appeasement.

You would likely die parachuting out a window from either the canopy collapsing due to crosswinds, slamming against a building, or getting caught in other debris.
You certainly wouldn't have a soft landing.

I recall seeing an HBO documentary not too long after 9/11. It followed some firefighters organizing on the ground floor of the WTC. I can still hear the sound of those bodies hitting the ceiling of the area. Continuous sounds. Surreal, horrible.

i only hope some of those jumpers died of cardiac arrest before having to die on impact. i understand they wouldnt feel the impact, but to endure the looming impact any longer than you have to had to be excruciating.

I've always thought many of them were trying to figure a way to figure a way to scale down the exterior of the buildings rather than jump.

I was up there about a month after it happened, got as close as they would let us. It's not an experience I will ever forget.

Some did. Some just made their peace and jumped. I remember it being very hard and unsettling= listening to some of the 911 audio recordings.

Does anyone know if Windows on the World was still in business during September 11th? It makes me nauseous thinking of the chefs, bartenders, waitstaff, etc. working that day with no way out.
Posted on 9/18/15 at 9:24 am to Forkbeard3777
It was. I heard a story earlier this week about a chef who was up there that morning. He worked nights but went in early that day to prep for something.

Yes, Windows on the World was definitely in operation on that day...If you've ever seen the photo of "the falling man", there is speculation he was one of the workers in the restaurant due to the clothing he was wearing.
