Looking at a used boat with low hours on this motor.

Save yourself some heartache and buy a Yammy. I am coming form experience with both black and silver.

If you will always be within paddling distance to the boat launch go with the merc, anything past that go yamaha

I have a 115 Opti from 2005 with less than 200 hours on it. I had the drive belt pop in the 10 years. My biggest problem is I don't use it enough. I has got me outta a lot of jams and I have run it in the mud enough to know I would get another one if I had to.

I have an 08 150 that is a beast. Light on fuel, lots of power. Oil is expensive as frick tho.

He asked about Mercury, not Yamaha.

I had ran a pair of 225's that were 2001 and had little to no trouble with them. Sold that boat with 500+ hours on them about 4 years ago and the guy that has it is still running them with no trouble.

When I go fishing with someone who has a Mercury I volunteer to bring an extra trolling motor battery.

The only downside to Mercs is having to tow Yamahas all day instead of getting to fish.

Mercs are the General Motors product of the fishing world.

Ah, I see I'm dealing with one who doesn't know the topic. Carry on.
