What it should mean is the state cannot force me to practice any religion against my will nor can it prevent me from practicing any religion that I choose.

It means we should have prayer in schools and teach creationism as fact.

That the state or any subsidiary of the state should not endorse a particular religion.

I also think acknowledgement, especially from a historical perspective, is not endorsement.

can't force me to do shite regarding religion.

keep all religion out of school sanctioned events including class.

churches should be taxed like corporations.

stop legislating morality.

It means too much religion in school interferes with other things, like spelling.

Agree

Agree that the school should not be able to compel a student to pray but likewise should not be able to stop them from praying.

churches should be taxed like corporations.

I disagree. That would be taxation without representation due to the fact that as per your own view of the constitution, churches cannot have anything to do with the government. Can't have it both ways.

quote:

remove all religious texts and references from government buildings.

Once again, that's fine. But how can you then turn around and tax those very churches which you prevent from having any expression in the government?

A turn of phrase used in correspondence by Thomas Jefferson that is misused by the wannabe legal eagles that want to have an opinion on monuments or funding issues.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof...

You may find the Establishment Clause interesting.

prayer should not be a public display....only show offs do that..and while cute, should not be in schools.

and creationism should be taught as a balance to evolution....don't teach evolution, great, don't teach creationism. can't have one without the other. except in pos public schools.

It means that I'm still surprised that after being banned for months for posting in religious debates here and told by Chicken himself that he DOES NOT WANT religious threads on his site, that they still are made nearly every single day.

That being said, it means that...

Nah...I'd like to post during football season and I'll likely be the only one banned, so never mind...

It seems like many people nowadays are very militant about this part....

quote:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion

... but oddly do not really care much for this part....

quote:

or prohibiting the free exercise thereof...

It means Obama can outlaw bibles and throw kids in jail for praying if they go to school.

Also the war on Christmas.

The state should not endorse a particular religion over another or clearly endorse religion over no religion.

This does not apply to largely negligible religious acts (simple, passing references to God or religion in a public address), government employees' largely passive involvement in minor religious events (a coach or official joining in a prayer), or action on religious subjects that have achieved independent meaning or have historical value.
