Netflix has been making data driven decisions for a long time now, and they have some great data. So although initially I don't feel like this is a good move, I'm assuming the data tells a different story.

I think people want 2 or 3 services to cover their Movie and TV needs, at least those that do cut the cable, not 5 or 6. I'm not sure this fits that mold, but it could make Netflix a major player in the HBO space, where they are currently trending.

Personally, I don't like it. The less content is not a good thing for me. I would hate to have 6 different subscriptions to worry about. If Netflix becomes Netflix content only, or close to it, I'd probably cancel.

However, if they stick to the Netflix content+Indie Movies+ Select TV I could see it being ok. I don't have Hulu and this change makes me consider getting Hulu. That and it makes Prime more important for me.

This is basically what I am talking about in my previous post.

If NF goes away from content in favor of their own (quantity vs. quality, so to speak), then people may tire of them, especially if the quality doesn't hold up to the bar they've set with their original content so far. I mean, even HBO has a pretty wide selction of movies in its collection.

If Netflix starts to rely solely on its original programming, then it becomes "just another channel" and may not keep the same viewership it's become used to.

when you factor in the cost of internet service + 5-6 streaming services it will put you pretty close to what cable costs I'd think.
