1-Ability
2-Intent
3-Opportunity
1-Ability: An unarmed 6 year old child may have the intent and opportunity to kill you, but you'd have a hard time convincing a jury they had the ability to do so.
2-Intent: A person next to you with a concealed pistol may have the ability and opportunity to kill you, but no intent.
3-Opportunity: A person with a machete on the other side of the highway may have the intent to kill you, and the ability to do so, but does not have the opportunity.
This is really good stuff! Have an upvote.

You do know what the word "regardless" means, don't you?
Here's a "Do" for you:
DO: weigh your decision to carry if forbidden against the likelihood of being caught and prosecuted and make your own informed decision on whether or not you still want to carry.
There are several places which are signed as "gun free" that I still choose to carry. Rest stops come to mind.

if you can't obey laws, you shouldn't conceal carry. if you feel that threatened in a situation that you choose to break a law rather than not carry, then you shouldn't be putting yourself in that situation. That's the decision you should make.

if you can't wrap your mind around the fact that not everything is black and white, then you probably struggle with a lot of things

Do you cc? If so, do you cc nearly all the time or every now and then?

aren't most movie theaters gun free zones?
I've always heard this, but at the Grand in Alexandria I couldn't find a sign or anything stating otherwise. I looked around last time we went.

Some really good advice has been given.
And some advice has been given that should be ignored.
THE GOOD ADVICE:
THE ADVICE YOU SHOULD IGNORE
My personal advice --> Don't look for advice on internet sites. How on earth are you gonna figure out which advice to accept and which to ignore ????
Just my $.02 worth.
And some advice has been given that should be ignored.
THE GOOD ADVICE:
quote:
DO have the contact information for an attorney you can call 24/7 if you get involved in an event. Talk to that attorney beforehand to understand how to handle the immediate aftermath.
Learn what kind of clothing works for you and cc and what doesn't.
you'll be learning all about this in the class that you take --- HOPEFULLY you will. If you don't, you picked the wrong class.
If you carry, I highly advise you take a defensive handgun course. The NRA basic pistol course or initial concealed handgun course is NOT a defensive handgun course. A true defensive course consists of high round counts (500 or more rounds), multiple shooting positions, threat assessment, trigger manipulation, sight alignment, etc. If you think a concealed carry course makes you a good shooter, you are delusional. It is NOT a shooting course - it is mostly a legal course about self defense law.
Get additional training beyond CCW license requirements. Knowing how to shoot a pistol is not the same as knowing how to fight with a pistol
THE ADVICE YOU SHOULD IGNORE
quote:
I would also look into purchasing CCW Safe, a membership based legal advice team if you ever get yourself into that kind of situation. They give you a lawyer and everything if it ever comes to it. -- You'd be better off with the Armed Citizens' Legal Defense Network. ACLDN
I would recommend getting a CC with a thumb safety. --- I surely wouldn't.
If you are nervous about carrying with a round chambered, carry with your gun in condition 2 (full mag, empty chamber) or condition 3 (no mag, empty chamber) for a week. --- If you're that nervous about carrying a gun, you probably shouldn't be carrying.
Just an interesting thought. The 124gr. +P voids your Glock warranty if it does not meet SAMMI Standards. So if you have service done its best not to mention you shoot +P. -- Yep, that's interesting, but not factual. First, virtually all US manufactured +p ammo meets SAAMI Standards. Second, Glock's only warranty limitation regarding ammo is " Reloaded, remanufactured, or handloaded ammunition, or ammunition of a different caliber than your GLOCK pistol is used." used to, no longer do, didn't renew permit. I wasn't a 100% carry guy.

Don't pull your piece unless you are planning to pull the trigger.

I don't know that this is really a do or don't, but the majority of responsible gun owners become more cautious and less confrontational while carrying.
Be among them.
Be among them.

That would be me. I'll fight the frick out of someone when I'm not, but if I am, I just walk away without even thinking about it

Don't pull your piece unless you are planning to pull the trigger.
Don't draw your weapon unless you are WILLING to pull the trigger.
But understand that you can't legally use deadly force (in Louisiana) once the threat has ended. So if the dude drops his knife when you draw your weapon, you can't legally shoot him/her.

Kinda gathered that and that's ok. That's a good thing about America....we have a choice to make our own decisions. Likewise, I choose to cc in an effort to maximize the safety of myself and my loved ones. By no means am I "paranoid" or "scared" (two of the more common deragatory phrases at the OB that are thrown at some in the cc crowd), but sometimes a person can find himself in an unexpected situation where one's security is at question; I've learned no one, especially me, can foresee the future to know when that's going to happen. Consequently, I cc. I don't encourage lawlessness, but there are times one has to make difficult decisions about one's personal safety.
