Who will be ranked higher in the SEC at end of year, defense or offense?

I am expecting great things from our offense and expect us to finish in top 2. I am confident that Harris can be better than average, and all we need of him is average. On defense, I am very skeptical, I see us near the middle to bottom of the pack. Biggest concern is fatigue on the line against SEC offenses that run the hurry up. Thoughts?

Defense will be top 3. Offense will be around 5-10

Secondary will be great but I think our D line hurts us this year with the lack of depth. It's such an important part of a good defense and we just don't have the depth to stay fresh late in games. I think we are somewhere in the middle of the SEC

Absolutely no concern about defensive line fatigue. We'll play five DTs at two positions and six DEs at two positions. No worries at all about fatigue. Now, stopping people when we're well rested could be problamatic, but I don't think so.

I hope the Defense is ranked higher. Offense just needs to be more efficient (especially in the redzone) and good TOP.

Depth doesn't just mean throwing a body out there. It means do you have any type of drop off from the first teamers. I can throw my frickin grandma out there that doesn't mean we have depth

ranked? why do you possibly care? rankings are mostly on yards gained or yards given up and that is just wrong. last year, LSU's defense was ranked #1 and I personally watched MSU and Auburn absolutely crush us. not to mention Notre Dame which bled us slowly but surely.
a football team has three components that work together in a game; offense, defense and special teams. by isolating one of these units you take the game played out of context and can greatly skew the actual result on the field.
it is clear to me that our defense last year was ranked so high (yardage wise) because we didn't give up tons of yardage to anyone other than MSU and Auburn but we still lost 3 other games and two of those our defense lost the game for us (bama and notre dame).
imo, our defense was mediocre last year all things considered.

I think we are going to be fearsome as the SEC's top offense. With so many weapons (receivers and backs that can catch and break it) Cam can open it up in the passing game when he wants to, but still be able to dominate and physically punish in the run game. Opposing DCs will have nightmares in preparation. I think the D will be between 4th and 8th, but that will be good enough.

the question is in what
yards? yards per game? yards per play? scoring? turnovers?

Offense
MSU
Auburn
UGA/LSU/TAMU
Defense
Bama/LSU/UF/Ole Miss
So a top 5 SEC offense and defense. If Harris 'shows up' this year, we are a top 3 SEC offense, if he is just mediocre, we are top 7. If the pass rush shows up, I could see us at #1 defense, right now it's a toss up. LSU has the best secondary, Bama has the best front 7, Ole Miss looks good despite losing two former all Americans in the secondary, Florida has the second best secondary and the DL should be pretty good.
I will pull towards the defense with the higher ranking.

depends on what your unit of measure is. If you are looking for total yards, number of plays...then yes, you are probably right. If you are looking at yards per play, and offensive efficiency....then I honestly believe LSU will be in top 3 in the SEC...along with a defense that is in top 3....making for a very good combination.
LSU is going to have a great offense this year....great OL, WR's, RB's, and even TE's.....very good Offensive Coordinator.....and BH will end up being a high draft pick before it is all said and done. A lot of you kids want a wide open offense that runs 90 plays a game....I strongly disagree. There is nothing more successful that the type of offense that LSU runs if they have the right personnel to run it (and I think they do this year). It wears defenses down over the course of the game, and makes teams literally quit. Most gimmicks can be defended. This offense can't, if executed correctly. JMO

D because our game plan is ball-control/run the clock. Fewer possessions (even if our O is dominating) means higher defensive ranking

How many times in the last 40 years has our offense been rated higher than our defense? 1 or 2? When was the last year that happened? Early 90's? Late 80's?

LSU's offense was also ninth nationally in TOP last year at 32:58 per game. While the offense struggled, it did do a pretty decent job of keeping the defense off of the field.
