Garden Park Hospital, Gulfport, MS
(I didn't know that flood water had invited itself to join me there later in the day )

Wherever I was, I was pissed off.

The aircraft carrier I was stationed on was heading out on deployment, really frustrating, had no contact with anyone here for a couple of weeks

The Commons pool, BRLA, eating mushrooms and drinking heavily. We found out about the flooding sometime later and shite got real.

In my town in Cenla, which had nearly doubled in size overnight with refugees. Some of them were here for nearly a year. Perhaps some stayed permanently, idk. I remember one family in particular from St Bernard, whose home was flooded, then covered in oil from a refinery. I wonder where they are now.

grandparent's house in Picayune, MS... my family was always more worried about the water than the storm itself
after watching my (now-late ) grandparents above ground pool and shed practically explode (though the house didn't suffer any damage at all)... I think my parents will go further north should another major storm come
ETA: my grandmother was fighting cancer at the time... and I always blame Katrina from taking some time w/ her away from us... I can't say if it caused her to miss any treatments... but roughly 6 months later she was gone

In San Diego watching the coverage on Fox, CNN. When I saw the report that the 17th St levee had collapsed I knew my house in Lakeview was f**cked.

My GF's mother developed cancer immediately after Katrina and was gone within two years. She blames the stress and heartache.
