As well as they should. One of the biggest keys to a healthy economy is traffic infrastructure that provides convenient routes and access for businesses to get to places.

I treat it like an interstate now, so it doesn't matter to me either way. Speed like hell on my way through the middle of nowhere

All you have to do is look at the work being done in Broussard to prepare for the interstate to know that it will be reality at some point. The most difficult piece will be the 3-4 mile stretch from the old Northgate mall (Willow) to the intersection with Pinhook near the airport.

The I-49 Connector is the project inside Lafayette that is in design now. It will connect US 90 by the Lafayette Airport to I-49 at I-10.
The State has a ton of projects that will keep upgrading US 90 from south of Lafayette all the way to downtown New Orleans.
There are talks of decommissioning a portion of I-10 in Nola from the I-10/I-610 split to where I-10 and I-610 come back together. Under this plan, I-610 will be renamed I-10 and that piece of I-10 along Claiborne will be taken down and Claiborne will be widened.
Anyway, that's beside the point. There is a push to get I-49 South done. It's just that the State doesn't have the money to do it all at once. Not until someone comes along and and makes it the highest priority. We need new infrastructure in the worst way.

I take 90 from Luling to Laffy often, much quicker for me than going I-10. Would love for it to be actual interstate but it's not that bad now; no lights from Paradis to Berwick and once you leave Patterson clear sailing to Broussard.
There is a push here to get a flyover at the 90/310 interchange to eliminate the backed up traffic trying to turn from 90 onto 310. The connection at 310 was actually built when it was open, just need to complete the design to make that area flow better.

Hopefully its an over pass through there.

If they were serious about getting 49 built, then why have they spent the money putting more interchanges in the medians south of Lafayette for the last two years? Serious question - I drive through that area a lot and don't understand what that has to do with prepping the area for interstate expansion.
The J-turns have been put in as the road has been expanded to 6 lanes. IMO the J-turn/ medians are a pain in the arse, but seem to have helped reduce accidents and make traffic flow smoother.
In the past, people crossing the same turn around in both directions was a major clusterfrick and led to countless wrecks

Simple fix for that. Close all the exits along the loop. Keep that congestion in the city.

It doesn't really matter how high you put the priority, the magnitude of money that is needed to actually complete the full length between Lafayette at I-10 all the way to N.O. is just so great it will take many many years to accomplish. Spots "fixes" can happen, see the projects just south of Lafayette, but sections like the "Connector" between I-10 and the Lafayette airport are going to cost extreme amounts of money when you factor in the permitting, right-of-way acquisition/relocations, and then construction.

I hate those J turns
We all hate the J turns, but sometimes, turning right at a red light then making a u turn is faster than waiting for the light to cycle for a left turn would have been.

The State is doing what it can in upgrading overpasses to interstate standards. That's the most expensive part--bridge replacement.

I'd pay $5 not to have to go thru Laffy traffic

Then how much would you pay to avoid Baton Rouge?

Please Dear God lets get this done. Doesn't seem like it would take a shite ton of money to do it.

Yes, that is another project that I've heard about. That would be welcome.

That stretch of 90 seems to just drag on. I guess those little towns don't want to lose the ticket revenue
