Jesus, can we not turn this thread into a hurricane dick measuring contest. For different reasons, both storms were extremely devastating and had a huge impact on the people living in each area just as equally.

Lived in Prairieville at the time. Rita was louder, windier and did more damage to my house than Katrina did.

Bitch.

Ok. Im not disputing that. Just saying my experiences in the two places were like night and day

That's probably due to the entitled population in New Orleans to put it nicely.

It was not that way everywhere around the city. They just seemed to be the big news story and garnered the attention of the media.

We went 23 days without electricity. When I started back to school, I still didn't have electricity for a week. We closed off our living room and we all slept in the living room cooled by a window unit by a generator that we used to power that, our fridge, and our freezer. Was tough times. We also ate MREs for a couple of weeks.

Crazy to think that 3 of the 7 most intense Atlantic hurricanes on record occurred in 2005.

Yes, it is crazy. I hope we don't see another year like that for a long time.

tree fell on my Dad's truck

he just looked at his truck, then to me, and screamed "frick!"

My folks were/are in Port Arthur. We were watching Jim Cantore broadcast from central mall parking lot. Getting updates etc. they go to commercial and another story. Go back to Jim and he moved toward Beaumont for "safer conditions". I'm sitting next to dad and laugh and start to say ,"damn, you know it's bad when Cantore....." The dejected look on my dads face made me stop.

They made out ok. Lost a lot of trees. They are pretty close to the mall.

Sorry. Wasn't trying to. Just saying that I spent time working the area and it was a huge difference from the disaster I had just came from. Never thought id see devastation like that even once, much less twice in a months time

The way things went down in NOLA were a cluster-frick of epic proportions. However, the time between Katrina and Rita isn't a fair comparison because it was only a few weeks. People couldn't even get back into some areas until October. Some couldn't back until January. The city was a military zone for much of September and you had the worst of the worst still running around the city. It's really tough to compare recovery efforts between two very vastly different destruction zones with even more drastic population differences.

I was in Biloxi during Katrina while I was in the Air Force. Went to pick up my family from Lake Charles after the storm. 1 day after leaving Lake Charles, Rita hit.

Actually lost power in Metry for 12 hours during Rita... It rained it's arse off.... Just loaded up the freezer and fridge with about $300 worth of food post Katrina, we were at Jiggers Bar on Vets, the wife calls and says we have no power... Old Metry was pitch black... Got to break in the new Troy Bilt...

Funny part post Katrina and Rita, we hung out at bars we've never hung out at ever before...
