(Note from the OP: This thread was bumped from 8/22/15!)

...would it be erector set by necessity?

We all know that the north side is where the pregame activities take place...where the team walks into the stadium, and into their locker room. And where TGBFTL does The March Down Victory Hill.

Any expansion, however limited, would need to be finished before the season opener for Tiger Stadium.

Does this mean erector set is the only way to go, because it is hands down the fastest manner of construction? Would you be prepared to accept an erector set addition as long as it had cladding to blend it in with the rest of the stadium?

Texas A&M went with erector set for half of Kyle Field because it was the fastest method of construction available. The pieces were pre-fitted, numbered, and stacked for easy and quick assembly. The Aggies did a pretty good job of cladding the erector set save for one end zone...

Obviously, that would not be acceptable here. We are proud of the unique look of our stadium, Even if all four sides look different from each other atm.

Here's an overhead rendering of Tiger Stadium and it's surroundings...

...you'll note how close North Stadium Road is to the north side of the stadium. There could be a couple of ways expansion could occur...one would involve road work, and possibly removing or reducing the ramps on the PMAC.

Another would involve building the sides as close to the sidewalk as possible, the making the center cantilever over the existing road.

An example of cantilever construction would be the renovations at Neyland Stadium...

...but on a grander scale. I'm not sure if LSU wants to be able to continue to use that as a road, or if they eventually plan on making it a pedestrian walk way...

...but in any case, if LSU wanted to avoid using erector set construction, an alternative would be to build out the addition in stages, suing concrete pour to match the current construction. The first stage would involve lengthening the sides, then completing the center after the season. The design would depend on the decision to/refusal to do road work.

As far as the look goes, this would possibly be a big bone of contention among Tiger Fans, as many fans...myself included, love the look of the North Side as it matches the original look of Tiger Stadium.

I believe though, that any expansion would wind up looking like the south end zone addition...

..which makes sense, as we'd hope the interior would match the south end zone addition as well...

Will it ever happen? Maybe, maybe not. But I don't think the west and east sides will ever have their looks updated to blend in with the rest of the stadium unless it does happen.

Your thoughts?

There's just not enough room for an NEZ upper deck. This is the final configuration, unless they remove some bleacher seats to make room for more suites.

not sure about all of that, but I hope they leave the north endzone the way it is for a long, long time...I really enjoy the view of campus, the capitol, and the bridge from the seats in the uppers....

We need butts to stay in the seats we already have before worrying about this. The stadium is half full as it is for decent SEC games.

Won't need to get that big
Will be on top of mikes cage and the PMAC
Cover up the last remaining iconic colosseum look.

Don't want ever.

They will tear down an upper deck before they build on the north IMO

Why? There is absolutely no need. Most Tiger fans have huge cocks anyway so don't need to engage in stadium dick measuring exercises.

Cool designs in the post though

One of the ideas being kicked around involves closing the street to traffic and creating a champions square type deal. It will be expanded eventually.

Need more suites? Replace the top few rows of the East and West upper decks and add them. Expansion is not needed...the stadium does not need to have more seats, leave the North Endzone alone...

I appreciate the effort and thought that you put into your OP.

I'm not smart enough, nor have any of the details to even have an opinion on a NEZ expansion.

But since you mentioned the continuity of the exterior...

I'm very disappointed in the design of West side. To me, it looks like whoever designed it had no clue about existing architecture at LSU... not sure the two even match each other. And oh yeah, let's just put a couple Lego blocks up on the top.

Some things are difficult to comprehend how adults made organized decisions that lead to such results.

How many $'s were invested in this?

The failure has almost made me apathetic to future renovations.

ETA: Changed architectural comment to West side, vs South EZ.

We are good with what we have now. No reason to expand ever in my mind.

There's something about the shots from tv like this of the north end zone with students going wild into a tv break that pumps me up. Something about the total darkness that makes it seem like we are far from civilization.

Southern Miss just kept their road and out the stadium over it. You can still drive through it.

I don't see a North End zone expansion on the horizon. The concourses need so much work and an East Stadium Club would probably come first. End suites don't bring the same cash as mid field suites.

the only expansion i think should be done would be to further extend the east and west uppers towards the north, just as they curve towards the south end zone (see below...existing on right, expansion on left).

it wouldn't block off N. Stadium Drive and would also leave the north end zone facade unobstructed

I say forget about adding more seats there. Instead, give me a full-end zone HD scoreboard.

For the love of everything good in the universe NO! There are enough people on campus, enough traffic enough expansion talk!

I'd rather focus on "blending" in both of the upper decks to mirror each other as closely as possible.

I wonder why, when closing in the original south endzone, the architects decided on the two levels instead of making it all one smooth level from the field up like the north endzone. Anyone in the know, know why they did it like that?

The next major project in Tiger Stadium needs to be renovating all the old dorm rooms/teachers offices into upscale hotel suites. I cant believe LSU is leaving this market untapped.

I think a row or two of suites (like Lambeau's NEZ) is feasible and possible, but I don't think we'll ever see expansion of regular seating.

In fact, if they do decide to add more suites (because the demand is there), I'd prefer this method over removing regular seating and lowering capacity for them like a lot of stadiums are doing now.
