Just saw this on the News-Star's website... LINK

quote:

The plans call for the existing visitor side, on the west side of the field, to be torn down and replaced by a new 5,500-seat home stands which will include a new state-of-the-art press box and would greatly expand the seating capacity of the stadium that opened in 1953

quote:

The current seating capacity of the stadium is 9,100. The seating capacity will be near 12,000 following its completion. Other amenities include new bathrooms and concession stands to enhance fan experience at games. New parking is expected to be part of the expansion as well.

Is this the rendering?

This is the current press box, which was actually expanded in the late 90s.

I went there for a playoff game several years ago and the atmosphere was impressive. If that is the rendering it looks awesome

That's an old picture that's been in Coney Island for years. Not sure if that's what it will look like exactly. Guess they're expecting a championship this year. Attendance has dropped a bit since no title in 3 years.

Please tell me that's not a "club" level area on the sides of the pressbox.

No way that will be what the new stadium looks like. WM has been having trouble filling up the home side. No reason to make it that extravagant. Upgrades are necessary and I'm all for making it nice, but that looks like an above average collegiate stadium.

As long as they replace the turf 1st, should have done that before the video board. Protect the players before trying to entertain fans.

I live in BR, and I'm glad for anyone in LA that has passion and pride for HS football.

It's more likely in north LA simply because it's not like they can hop in their car and be in TS or the Box in less than an hour.

Pump that money into something that at least involves kids.

Maybe off subject (or not?), how has the state football changed at WM since the passing of Don Shows?

The traffic cone on the one yard line is an unusual upgrade...

I hope WM and their school board get their bond financing locked down sooner rather than later.

The state and local municipalities, including school boards, are about to be under significant financial pressure when it comes to renewing debt or having new debt issued.

Also, tax initiatives that go to the polls are unlikely to pass given current economic indicator in Louisiana.

All that said, at one time WM had the premier booster club in the state and raised significant money for projects...It has been 15 years since I knew the players that ran that booster club.....but WM took it very, very seriously and had little reliance on bond financing for projects.

Bastrop significantly upgraded their facilities a decade or so ago...no booster club support and had to go almost all bonds.

Their football stadium will be bigger than SLU and Nicholls
