I have about 1/2 acre lot and at the almost 44 I am done pushing. Anyone have any recommendations on riding mowers...must have a beer holder.

Got a Sears one. Works fine and has a beer holder. $1099

They pretty much all have drink holders, go get you a 42" cut at Lowes or other big box store for $899/999.

Just bought a 46 inch cub cadet and love it. It turns on a dime too. I can't have a zero turn cause I have too much incline in my back yard. After I finish cutting grass I like to just ride around my yard drinking beer on it.

Toro is a world class mower company and make great products. I've own one for years without any major problems. Same thing can be said about Kohler engines. Mine has one and has been spectacular. But then again, I take care of my equipment.

Nothing 'world class' about Toro

I'm 58 and have a self propelled. You need the exercise.

Cub cadets at Tractor Supply.
MTD makes just about all the big box brands like Cub.
Tell you what I did after my 17 year snapper just got where it needed work every time I mowed---my fault because I kept it in the rain. I don't think snappers are as good as they once were BTW. I bought a used Hustler zero turn. A guy traded in a 42 for larger deck and it was only 2 or 3 years old. Run to drive and I mow a little under an acre in 30 minutes or so.

I am presently a cub cadet, Husqvarna, dealer out if state.
1 location Husqvarna and other 3 are MTD/cub cadet for my residential line.
I like offering both to give people choices with hydrostatic transmissions.
Yes, I sell or sold Kubota, scag, grasshopper, cub cadet commercial, Dixon now jonsered owned by Husqvarna, and sold Toro. Just not everyone needs a zero turn or can afford one.
For 1/2 acre or less both Husqvarna and cub cadet are nice riders.
That is why I sold both not everyone can afford or needs a bigger rider or RZT.
Technology wise at this level not much difference, but price wise you get a little more out of a cub cadet.
Cub xt1 series has better steering,1 level up on the transmission, no hour warranty on XT1, and easier on my side to process warranty claims.
They also have better steering on their entry level riders.
I don't knock Husqvarna due to the make a nice unit also at this price point.
Sears is a rebadged MTD/cub cadet or rebadged Husqvarna.
They typically take a few feature off to make up for price point.
Low end stuff $999 and under are rated around 300 hrs or less.
Made for small yards basically if you cut larger area the 300 hrs comes faster.
Entry level XT1 cub cadet rated for around 500 hrs on avg.
Husqvarna still rated at 400 hrs on avg.
Should last the avg person 4 to 6 even up to 8 years depending on how much you cut.
Being Husqvarna and MTD/cub cadet service center I fixed both.
Yes I always fixed homecenter units TSC, Lowes, Home Depot, Menard's, Fleet farm.
85% of issues are operator error
5% of issues are true mfg or setup errors a good dealer weeds these out and fixes the issues before selling them
10% mfg defects due to premature wear.

It depends on the mower. The ones that come from Sears/Lowes are all made my MTD no matter what name is on it, Toro, Cub, Husqvarna, Murray, Deere.
You have to go to a dealer to get a mower that is made by the manufacturer, but that is an upgraded cost as well.

really...what industry cuts more grass than any other. golf courses in my mind, and I've only seen Toro equipment at golf courses. To each their own. They still wouldn't be in business if they didn't produce quality equipment, especially with so many others to choose from.

Not true. The Deere is made by Deere at the Deere factory. Toro is also a Toro. You can buy those same units at the dealer. The dealer does offer much nicer units as well.

you could pay someone to cut your grass for you at that price. and thats not even considering your time, gas/oil, maintenance, etc.

I didn't think Deere makes push mowers any more?
I just moved up the rung and bought a used Snapper HiVac 21" commercial push mower - nice, but based on my first use looks like i'll have to run it pretty slow to get a good cut.

Those are actually Toro manufactured mowers you are seeing on the courses. Not ones made by a secondary manufacture and rebadged with the Toro name like that are sold at box stores. There is a difference. Go to Home Depot and look at a John Deere mower. Then go to Sunshine equipment or any true JD dealer and look at the same comparable model. There are many differences from the frame, mower deck, pulley systems, to the drive line.

Dont forget the front end loader. It is very useful.
And you can use on your duck\deer lease.

I've got my eye on a cub cadet 42" RZT. Is it worth it to go with the 46" to get the fab deck? I have right at an acre of mostly flat ground. TIA
