Though his presidency is unpopular (I really don't know much about it), he has certainly done a ton of good for the world after he left politics. The Carter Center is a great organization.

Carter went from a seemingly good Georgian, to a bad President and miserable person, to back to a good person doing a lot of good things, then back to a miserable person doing bizarre things.
But, I hope things go as well as possible for him and his family. He certainly served his country and state.

Until someone presides over something like the fairly complete collapse of the Union, that honor will continue to go to James Buchanan.

He may be the most honest, "good guy" prez we've ever had.
The late 70's were still pretty rough to be president. Oil embargoes, multiple revolutions around the world, and the Soviet Union at it's mightiest.
We needed someone like Reagan to come in and start enforcing some shite.

even though I was born after the Carter administration... it seems the only thing you need to know about his 4 years in office are 3 words... Tehran hostage crisis

Nah. Guy was a total douche while POTUS, according to a lot of people who served him in the WH.

He was a cancer to this country. Held the title of worst president until Obama came along.

Honestly haven't kept up with him, could you expound on this.

Pretty humble Georgian, served in the Navy, who surprised a lot of people with success in politics...becomes President, acts incompetently and treats people beneath him like shite...leaves presidency in shambles, devotes a lot of time and energy to charitable organizations....subsequently becomes shill for Islam and makes a lot of borderline anti-US and anti-Israel statements.

Nobody knows the "has the plane taken off yet?" reference??
That's the best story ever

that's a little strong. He's a dope for peace, and simply imposes his Western ideals on Muslims, which doesn't work in Realpolitik. No dumber than thinking we would be greeted as liberators in Iraq and fix it by killing Saddam.

Probably true. I think it does have more to do with his pacifistic world view and belief that America ideally wouldn't hold a superpower role than his opinions of Islam. It just ended up with him on that side of a lot of conversations.

Meh - it goes further than that - he's rabidly pro Palestinian and anti-Israeli.
It goes beyond mere naiveté.

This isn't necessarily a bad thing. Israel is not a very good ally to us and they spy on us, take our money, sabotage American interests, lie about us, and refuse to fight our own enemies, while we get nothing in return from them.
